Selena Gomez ‘Felt Like A Joke’ At Early Stage Of Her Adult Career

Selena Gomez got fame after she starred in Disney series, and recently, The Only Murders in the Building actress acknowledged that it was anything but simple to step into adult acting roles after her childhood star days, especially, because she didn’t initially feel accepted by her peers in the industry.

In a recent interview, the songstress shared, “I felt like it was very difficult for people to take me seriously. I have slowly pushed through that, and I’m really glad, but it was very frustrating. I felt like a joke, you know?” Gomez, who was a child actor who appeared in Barney & Friends, got her official start as Alex Russo on the Disney Channel’s Wizards of Waverly Place. When the show went off the air in 2012, she hoped to get some bigger roles.

One of Gomez’s first post-Disney roles was 2012’s controversial Spring Breakers, which costarred Gomez’s fellow Disney star Vanessa Hudgens and Pretty Little Liars’ Ashley Benson. In the years since Gomez has established herself across many industries. Selena also produced some of the hit titles, including 13 Reasons Why and the docu-series Living Undocumented. One of her latest ones is a cooking show with Hulu titled Selena + Chef, which features the star learning to cook with chefs over a remote set-up.

She has also starred in the comedy-crime drama, Only Murders in the Building, which is scheduled to release its second season on June 28. The Grammy-nominated singer recently confirmed to Deadline’s Crew Call podcast that she’s in the studio working on her next album. “I’m grateful for where I am, but I think and I believe that I’ve barely touched the surface of what I’m able to do,” she said. While the songstress didn’t commit to plans for an upcoming tour, she hints that taking her music on the road has been on her radar.

Disney alum said, “I am open to a tour, 1,000 per cent. But I obviously have obligations and things that I want to do, so, when the time’s right. It’s not the top of my priority list.” Gomez, who hosted Saturday Night Live for the first time earlier this month, released Revelación in March 2021, and the album Rare in 2020. She also popped up on the Coldplay track ‘Let Somebody Go’ in October.
