Skoda has introduced a new special edition variant of its popular Kushaq SUV called the Onyx Edition. This version of the Skoda Kushaq is positioned above the base-spec Active variant but below the mid-spec Ambition Classic variant.

Priced at Rs 12.39 lakh (ex-showroom, India), the new Skoda Kushaq Onyx Edition is Rs 80,000 pricier than the Active variant and is only available with the combination of a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol powertrain and a 6-speed manual gearbox. The Kushaq Onyx Edition gets a few visual tweaks and additional features over the Active variant.

On the outside, the special edition version of the Kushaq comes with stylized grey graphics on the lower half of the door panels, a faux diffuser for the bumper, and chrome surrounds for the grille. It also gets ‘Onyx’ badges on the B-pillar and a new design for the 16-inch plastic wheel covers. The cabin of the Skoda Kushaq Onyx Edition receives ‘Onyx’ badges on the headrests and scuff plates beneath the doors, while the dashboard gets a different textured finish. The overall interior carries a dual-tone black and grey theme, and the cabin adds more premium touches with the two-spoke steering wheel and chrome surrounds for the AC vents on the dashboard.

The Kushaq Onyx Edition also comes with a few additional features over the Active variant. It gets LED projector headlamps, fog lamps, and a rear wiper, washer, and defogger. The cabin also gets a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 6-speaker audio system, automatic climate control with a touch-sensitive panel for controls, an air purifier, and a height-adjustable driver’s seat. Safety features offered in the Kushaq Onyx Edition include dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, three-point seat belts for all passengers, a tyre pressure monitoring system, and ISOFIX mounts for child seats.

Only available with 1.0-litre turbocharged engine

The Skoda Kushaq Onyx Edition is offered only with the option of a 1.0-litre three-cylinder TSI petrol engine and a 6-speed manual gearbox, delivering a maximum power output of 115 PS and a peak torque output of 175 Nm. Although an automatic transmission is not currently available, it may be introduced later.

The Skoda Kushaq Onyx Edition comes at a time when competition in the midsize SUV segment is at its peak. This new special edition version of the Skoda Kushaq competes with the entry-level variants of other SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, MG Astor, and Volkswagen Taigun.
