Skoda Octavia crosses 1 lakh unit sales in India

Recently, Skoda Auto India Pvt Ltd., the Indian division of Czech automaker Skoda Auto, revealed that its midsize sedan Octavia has reached a significant milestone. The Octavia has officially sold 1 lakh units, according to the automaker, and has surpassed other popular vehicles in India in terms of sales via the parts and components route or the CKD kit route. Additionally, according to Skoda India, the Octavia is now one of the few models with the longest history of continuous sales in India.

Commenting on the landmark achieved by the Škoda Octavia, Zac Hollis, Brand Director, ŠKODA AUTO India said, “The OCTAVIA is synonymous with ŠKODA AUTO since our entry into India. It introduced Indian consumers to a value luxury package of design, technology, comfort, versatility and driving dynamics and created its own segment when launched in 2001.”

Hollis further added, “It has since become one of the largest selling Parts and Components vehicle of all time in India, recently crossing the 1 lakh sales mark. A big thank you to our family of fans and customers whose continued love and support to the OCTAVIA for over two decades has made this accomplishment possible.”

Skoda India unveiled the first generation of Octavia in 1996 and released it in India in 2001. A vRS variant which was the first Skoda to wear the iconic, performance-oriented badge in a production car, then followed the standard model in 2004. This vRS also has the distinction of being India’s first-ever performance sedan powered by turbo-petrol. Skoda released the second-generation Octavia in 2005 naming it the Laura and continued to sell the first-generation model until 2010 alongside the Laura.

The third-generation of the sedan which was internally called the A7 Octavia was introduced in 2013, and in 2017 it received an RS variant via CBU in the shape of the RS 230. In 2020, the Czech automaker followed it up with the RS 245—the quickest Skoda ever sold in India. The Octavia RS iV, Skoda’s first plug-in hybrid, soon will also become available in India.

Skoda released the fourth-generation Octavia in India in June of last year and it has starting a price of Rs 25.99 lakh. The top-of-the-line L&K trim on the other hand has been priced at Rs 28.99 lakh. Skoda sold 1,915 Octavia vehicles in India in total during FY22. Due to the discontinuation of the Honda Civic, Renault Fluence, Volkswagen Jetta, Hyundai Elantra, and Toyota Corolla, it is presently the sole executive sedan available in the nation.
