On February 27th, 2024, Skoda Auto India takes a significant step towards electrification with the launch of the Enyaq, its first electric vehicle (EV) in the Indian market. This move follows the growing trend of automakers entering the EV space, catering to the rising consumer demand for sustainable transportation.

First showcased at the Bharat Global Mobility Expo in December 2023, the Enyaq was also spotted undergoing testing on Indian roads, generating anticipation for its official arrival. This globally unveiled 2022 model will reach India through the Completely Built-Up (CBU) route, leveraging Skoda’s MEB platform. This platform is also shared with its soon-to-be-launched counterpart, the Volkswagen ID.4.

Measuring 4,648 mm in length, 1,877 mm in width, and 1,618 mm in height, the Enyaq offers a comfortable and spacious two-row cabin, distinguishing itself from Skoda’s flagship Kodiaq SUV. Its 2,765 mm wheelbase ensures ample legroom and headroom for passengers.

The Enyaq boasts a head-turning design with an illuminated grille, sleek LED headlamps, contrasting black accents, and aerodynamically designed alloy wheels. Wraparound two-piece LED tail lights, prominent Skoda lettering, an integrated spoiler, and a shark-fin antenna complete the sporty yet sophisticated look.
Inside, the Enyaq is expected to provide a modern and luxurious experience with amenities like an advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS), a 360-degree camera, dual all-digital displays, and a multifunction steering wheel for an intuitive driving experience.

Initially launching in the Enyaq 80 variant, the SUV packs a 77 kWh battery pack offering a WLTP claimed range of 500 km, ensuring ample juice for daily commutes and weekend getaways without range anxiety. Powering the Enyaq is a rear-mounted electric motor generating 200 bhp and 310 Nm of torque, propelling it from 0-100 kmph in a swift 8.5 seconds.

This positions the Enyaq squarely against other premium electric SUVs like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6, offering buyers a unique blend of European design, spaciousness, and potential long-range capabilities.

While the Enyaq marks Skoda’s entry into the EV segment, the brand already has a diverse lineup in India catering to various tastes and budgets. This includes the Slavia (mid-size sedan), Kushaq (compact SUV), Kodiaq (full-size SUV), and Superb (executive sedan).

The Enyaq’s arrival signifies Skoda’s commitment to sustainability and its ambition to become a key player in the burgeoning Indian EV market. With its competitive specifications, modern features, established brand presence, and spacious yet compact design, the Enyaq is poised to make a strong impression on Indian consumers seeking a premium and sustainable driving experience.

The Enyaq is just the beginning of Skoda’s electric journey in India. With additional EV models expected in the future, the brand is well-positioned to capture a significant share of the rapidly growing electric vehicle market. So, if you’re considering an EV, keep an eye on Skoda – the future looks electrifying!
