Sophia Bush, Nia Batts Join Deepfake Doc ‘Another Body’

Sophia Bush and Nia Batts have signed on as executive producers to Another Body, a documentary that dives into the world of deepfake pornography.

The doc, which premiered at last year’s SXSW film festival, follows a college student who discovers deepfake pornography of herself circulating online and searches for answers and justice. The doc uses deepfake tech to help tell Taylor’s story and the larger narrative of how the tech can be weaponized.

Sophie Compton and Reuben Hamlyn directed Another Body, which was produced by Elizabeth Woodward at WILLA.

“As new technologies emerge, they have the capacity to change the world for the better. They also have the potential to do immense harm to already at-risk groups. It is our hope that as investors, advisors, political advocates for equality, and lifelong storytellers, we can lend our voices to the good and apply pressure to lawmakers to help protect our communities from the rest,” said Bush and Batts in a joint statement. “Championing equity is central to our mission as partners, and as women in the world. We are thrilled to join the Another Body team and support the coalition they are building around this important work”.

Their commitment to championing equity, combined with their insights into the intersections of technology, storytelling, and activism, aligns seamlessly with the ethos of our documentary.”

As a part of the film’s efforts to educate about the potential dangers for deepfake tech, the filmmakers founded #MyImageMyChoice, a campaign that is meant to amplify the voices of intimate image abuse and deepfake abuse survivors. The campaign, which is working with both the U.S. and U.K. governments, as well as NGOs, is organizing a virtual summit on March 19 and 20 about deepfakes abuse with discussions and panels that will tackle topics like the harms of the abuse and the online platforms that promote intimate image abuse, as well as potential changes that can be made toward offering protections.

Recently, deepfake generated pornography made national news when nonconsensual AI-generated deepfake nude imagery of Taylor Swift was posted on X (formerly known as Twitter), leading to condemnation from Congress and SAG-AFTRA, among others.

Bush and Batts, who previously partnered on the women-found and led First Women’s Bank, will participate in a panel discussions. The summit is co-hosted by The Reclaim Coalition, Bumble, WILLA, and Marska Hargitay’s The Joyful Heart Foundation.

“As we prepare for the world’s first global Virtual Summit on Deepfake Abuse, their involvement not only magnifies the reach and impact of the message of Another Body but also enriches the dialogue we are fostering,” said the filmmakers behind Another Body. “Their voices and leadership will amplify our collective efforts to combat online gendered violence and advocate for meaningful change.”
