Stellantis finally adopts Tesla’s charging standard (NACS, SAE J3400)

0 26

Stellantis, the company that owns Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Jeep, Peugeot, Ram, and many other automotive brands, has announced that it will adopt Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS), which is currently being standardized as SAE J3400, for its electric vehicles (EVs) starting with select models in 2025.

Stellantis was the only major car manufacturer that hadn’t adopted NACS. Most other car manufacturers, including Audi, BMW, Ford, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Nissan, Porsche, Toyota, and Volkswagen, have already adopted NACS for their EVs in North America to establish a single charging standard in the region.

Stellantis also says that it will make adapters that will allow vehicles with a Combined Charging System (CCS) port to charge using the NACS adapter during the transition period. According to it, IONNA (a charging network being developed by BMW, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, and Stellantis) charging stations will also feature NACS/SAE J3400 adapters alongside CCS adapters.
