Stop Sending “Hateful Messages” Following Album Release

0 15

Ariana Grande published a message on Saturday asking fans to stop sending “hateful messages to the people in my life” following the release of her album, Eternal Sunshine.

“i just wanted to say anyone that is sending hateful messages to the people in my life based on your interpretation of this album is not supporting me and is absolutely doing the polar opposite of what i would ever encourage,” Grande wrote in an Instagram story.

The pop star added that the fan messages are “entirely misinterpreting the intention behind the music.”

Grande’s seventh album, released Friday, explores facets of personal relationships and individual growth, and comes on the heels of a year when her love life dominated the news. Grande and her ex-husband, Dalton Gomez, filed for divorce in September 2023. Around the same time, she was reportedly romantically linked to her Wicked co-star, Ethan Slater.

“although this album captures a lot of painful moments, it also is woven together with a through line of deep, sincere love,” Grande wrote on Saturday. “if you cannot hear that, please listen more closely.”

Also on Saturday, the singer performed on Saturday Night Live with Josh Brolin as host. Grande performed “we can’t be friends (wait for your love)” and “imperfect for you,” both new releases from Eternal Sunshine, and the latter of which was introduced by her mother, Joan Grande.

Grande’s statement comes a few weeks after she opened up about tabloid attention during an appearance on the Zach Sang Show, saying: “We selectively remember that this is what the tabloids do to people, especially women, based on whether or not we like the person.”

“We selectively leave space for humanness, for nuance,” she continued, adding that readers of tabloids “don’t leave space for that.”
