said Thursday it is dropping a two-day-old trademark lawsuit against
Sweetgreen Inc.,

after the salad chain agreed to rename its new menu item the Chicken + Chipotle Pepper Bowl instead of Chipotle Chicken Burrito Bowl.
Chipotle filed the lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California on Tuesday, saying Sweetgreen’s original name used capital letters for chipotle, mimicking Chipotle’s logo and confusing customers.
According to the complaint, Chipotle sent a letter to Sweetgreen before filing the lawsuit with suggestions for new, “more appropriate” names, including “chicken bowl with chipotle.”
On Thursday, a Chipotle spokeswoman said the company was pleased with the new Sweetgreen bowl name.
“We have both agreed to resolve the pending lawsuit,” she said.
A Sweetgreen spokeswoman said it renamed the bowl “to focus on the business and continue serving our guests without distraction.” She said the company is looking forward to putting the lawsuit behind it.
Sweetgreen launched the new menu item last week. The bowl has blackened chicken, wild rice, black beans, tomatoes and cabbage. It also comes with a roasted chipotle salsa.
Chipotle also sells burrito bowls with meat, rice, beans and salsa.
