AI Pin

What a hands-on demo taught me

One device I didn’t expect to see at MWC 2024 in Barcelona was the Humane Ai Pin that was announced a few months ago. After all, Humane’s AI-powered gadget will only launch in the US and will also require a subscription to the company’s own MVNO wireless service. But this is a wearable device. It features built-in cellular service, and it’s built around AI. What better place to show it off than the biggest mobile show in the world?  I accidentally found the Ai Pin at Qualcomm’s booth while checking out the chip…

Humane pushes Ai Pin ship date to mid-April

Hardware is difficult, to paraphrase a famous adage. First-generation products from new startups are notoriously so, regardless of how much money and excitement you’ve managed to drum up. Given all that, it’s likely few are too surprised that Humane’s upcoming Ai Pin has been pushed back a bit, from March to “mid-April,” per a new video from the Bay Area startup’s Head of Media, Sam Sheffer. In the Sorkin-style walk and talk, he explains that the first units are set to, “start leaving the factory at the end of…

Wearable startup Humane AI laid off four percent of its employees before it has started shipping its Ai Pin, The Verge has reported. Leadership reportedly told employees that budgets would be lowered in 2024, according to sources familiar with the matter. The cuts were implemented earlier this week and affect around 10 people. On LinkedIn, CEO and co-founder Bethany Bongiorno called the cuts "part of a wider refresh of our organizational structure as our company evolves with purpose for this next phase of growth." She…

Waiting for the amazing Humane Ai Pin? Know when you will get world’s first wearable computer powered by AI

On November 10, Humane, a 2018-founded startup known for working with AI technology, unveiled its first product called Ai Pin, a clothing-based wearable gadget. The OpenAI CEO Sam Altman-backed company presented the device as a new technology that does not require a user to spend time interacting with it and instead gets the information needed quickly so they can focus on the moment. With a displayless design, which goes against the ethos of most consumer tech products, the company focuses on voice and laser ink…

Humane’s AI Pin looks like a miserable smartphone replacement

Humane I should be so excited about the Humane AI Pin. It’s sci-fi-cool mobile tech wrapped up in a slick futuristic design with functionality that immediately makes me think of Star Trek. But when I really think about what it does and how it works, all I see is how it’s sucking all the fun out of smartphones, digital communication, and life in general. If it truly represents the future of mobile, then you can keep it. I’ll stick with my iPhone, and this is why. It’s very serious indeed Humane launches AI Pin (full…

Ai Pin raises ‘creepy camera’ fears, but this is how Humane is protecting people’s privacy

Humane's Ai Pin is a unique device that can perform the majority of the tasks that a smartphone does, without a display or requiring to touch it even once. Its cofounder Imran Chaudhri called this new technology “AI as an interface”, where you only had to make minimal interactions with the device in order to get things done. However, there were some concerns raised by skeptics as well. One of them pointed out that the 13MP camera on the device, when worn on clothes, also stares at whatever you're looking at. Such a…

Humane’s AI Pin aims to beat the smartphone. That’s the wrong goal.

Before we go any further, I’d like to shamelessly plug my cover story from our new Fast Company winter issue. It’s about Marques Brownlee (aka MKBHD), the definitive gadget critic of the YouTube age. To learn how a quiet New Jersey high school student became a trusted reviewer, online superstar, and founder of a growing media company, I spoke with everyone from Brownlee himself to tech-industry executives to someone with a unique perspective on his story: his mother. The story and two bonus articles are live on…
