Rivian issues its second airbag recall in less than a month

Rivian is issuing a recall for airbag-related issues for the second time in the last few weeks. The EV automaker is notifying affected owners of the R1S SUV (2022-23) about potentially faulty side-curtain airbags. The recall says one or more of the models’ side-curtain airbags (left or right side) may not have been properly fastened. Honda patents crotch-firing, torso-hugging detachable motorcycle airbag

Honda has patented a new type of airbag system for motorcycles, which would rapidly inflate in a crash or fall situation, wrap around the rider's torso in a great big hug, and detach from the bike to protect the rider when the two are separated. This patent has been dug up by our old friend and erstwhile colleague Ben Purvis, who now writes for Cycle World. Ben has always had an eagle eye for patent applications, and some serious kung fu when it comes to the arcane process of hunting down particularly interesting…

Rivian recalls more than 12,700 EVs over airbag deployment flaw

Rivian's new battery option is coming alongside some less-than-pleasant news. The EV brand is recalling 12,716 R1T pickups and R1S SUVs from the 2022 model year over an airbag deployment problem. A supplier's flawed seatbelt sensors can prevent the front passenger airbag from deploying properly. The car won't necessarily notify occupants, ether. The firm tells Engadget safety is its "top priority," and that the free repair shouldn't take more than 30 minutes. In its report with the National Highway Traffic Safety…

The voluntary recall affects over 12,700 Rivian EVs and pertains to a sensor in passenger seatbelt system that may cause a reduced, or complete lack of deployment in the passenger airbag. Rivian remains a relatively young EV automaker still looking to find its stride in scaled EV production. Although it slightly missed on…

They sit flat as you ride, but in a crash, they balloon up like Sam Smith at the Brit Awards, protecting your knees, hips and thighs.Protective airbags embedded into motorcycle gear are now a staple of top-level racing, inflating in an instant to mitigate rider injuries. Tesla recalls 30,000 Model X cars due to faulty airbag behavior

Tesla has issued a recall for 29,348 Model X vehicles, because their airbag might deploy incorrectly in some situations. This recall affects 2021 to 2023 Model X cars manufactured for customers in the US. According to the recall notice (PDF) published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the restraint control module calibration on those specific vehicles could cause the frontal passenger airbag to deploy "in an unintended configuration during certain low-speed collision events." While the notice…
