Nvidia’s Omniverse shows the enterprise side of Apple’s Vision Pro

The 2024 Nissan Z sports coupe is a very sexy car. I know because I recently spent some quality time with one—admiring it from a variety of angles, inspecting its fit and finish, and sitting in the driver’s seat. I didn’t actually drive it, but I had a good excuse: This wasn’t a real car. It was the next big thing, though—an uncannily realistic virtual vehicle, made possible by Apple’s Vision Pro headset and some new software from Nvidia. Why the Apple Vision Pro is going to make loneliness worse

When Apple recently debuted the Vision Pro headset after a decade of development in the U.S., CEO Tim Cook called it “tomorrow’s technology today.” The company is finally getting into the competitive race of consumer tech products that create mixed-reality and immersive VR experiences with the likes of Meta’s Quest Pro, Microsoft HoloLens, and Google Glass. Nvidia is bringing its Omniverse Cloud platform to Apple’s headset, allowing users to interact with objects and design directly through the Vision Pro. The basis of support is a set of Omniverse Cloud APIs that can stream Omniverse assets to Apple’s headset. Omniverse isn’t running on the Vision Pro itself. Instead, designers can…

Vision Pro is missing feature that prevents motion sickness

Meta/Apple A new study on virtual reality comfort suggests that some of the best VR headsets have a feature that can help prevent motion sickness. Also known as simulator sickness, the problem is due to a mismatch between what you see in a head-mounted display (HMD) and what your body feels in reality. It’s well known that gamers prefer higher frames per second (fps) to be able to react more quickly and aim with greater accuracy. According to a recent study, though, a faster refresh rate can also reduce the chances…
