Alpine Dog Brewing closing in Denver in March

It has been tough for breweries in central Denver over the past year as at least half a dozen have closed, including Mockery, MobCraft, Wah Gwaan, Dos Luces, Counter Culture and Lowdown. Alpine Dog Brewing, at 1308 E. 17th Ave., will join that list when it shuts its doors on March 31. “After nearly 10 years of great beer, great friends and the most fun and epic of times, Alpine Dog will be selling or otherwise closing the brewery,” the business wrote on social media. “It’s a bittersweet moment to leave behind what we…

Craft breweries tap suburbs south of Denver

Since the founding of Parker’s Downhill Brewing in 2017, owners Jake Minturn and Doug Hyndman always planned to expand to multiple locations. By then, the craft beer market had matured enough the duo felt they couldn’t rely on the production and distribution model. Instead, they tried to build a welcoming space — and one with a vibe that could be replicated in new places. After years of searching, Minturn and Hyndman finally found their ideal spot. Downhill Brewing’s second location in Greenwood Village opened at 9672 E.…

It’s unclear if Lady J beers will be available anywhere in the…

Joyride Brewing co-owner accused of theft countersues for $170K

A minority owner of Joyride Brewing in Edgewater says accusations that he misappropriated $1 million from the brewery are frivolous, so he is countersuing it for $170,000. Grant Babb, who was the general manager at Joyride until resigning in October, has been blamed by managing co-owner Dave Bergen of bankrupting the brewery through theft. “This has nothing to do with Joyride’s ability to run a successful or profitable business but rather has everything to do with the improper and unauthorized spending, as well as…

There’s a war brewing over OLED gaming monitors

Jacob Roach / Digital Trends Samsung and LG Display are teeing up to battle for the panel in your monitor. Normally, you don’t need to think about the panel inside your monitor. You look at the brand, assess the features, seek out an independent review, and make your buying decision. For OLED gaming monitors, however, the panel couldn’t be more important, as LG and Samsung Display tackle the growing display technology in very different ways. After a soft launch in 2023, the fight is heating up this year as these two…

Startup brewing waste to replace palm oil gets Gates Foundation cash

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is pumping $3.5 million into C16 Biosciences, the Y Combinator-backed company fermenting alternatives to the environmentally destructive palm oil business. The Gates grant comes alongside a $1 million check from Elemental Excelerator, a nonprofit accelerator that backs climate tech “with deep community impact.” You can find palm oil pretty much everywhere — in soaps and biofuels as well as chocolates and instant ramen.
