VC Trae Stephens says he has a bunker (and much more) in talk about Founders Fund and Anduril

Last night, for an evening hosted by StrictlyVC, this editor sat down with Trae Stephens, a former government intelligence analyst turned early Palantir employee turned investor at Founders Fund, where Stephens has cofounded two companies. One of these is Anduril, the buzzy defense tech company that is now valued at $8.4 billion by its investors. The other is Sol, which makes a single-purpose, $350 headset that weighs about the same as a pair of sunglasses and that is focused squarely on reading, a bit like a…

Amnesia: The Bunker review: the most nerve-wracking Amnesia game yet

Frictional’s Amnesia games are fueled by guilt, and Amnesia: The Bunker — the latest installment, released today — is no exception. The Bunker has all the hallmarks of the beloved horror series: a nigh-invincible monster that stalks the player, a clunky interface that forces you to grapple with items physically, a historical setting with a Lovecraftian twist, and a protagonist who has forgotten something terrible. But The Bunker is a marked departure from a long-established formula. Set in the trenches of World War I, it…

Amnesia: The Bunker turns war into a traumatic horror game

Though the horror genre has a rich history of using monsters as stand-ins for something truly horrifying, scary video games aren’t always so thematically ambitious. There’s a slew of zombie games, for instance, that trade in sharp social commentary for mindless shooting. That trend always leaves me looking for more cerebral horror games, ones that scratch the same itch as 2010’s psychologically unnerving Amnesia: The Dark Descent. So perhaps I shouldn’t be surprised that the first horror game that would accomplish…

Will you explore the bunker? Another month, another slew of games being added to Xbox Game Pass. Typically games new games are added to the service twice a month, so this is essentially the first wave of games for June. This time there’s a little bit of everything, but the headline game here is certainly Amnesia: The Bunker. The horror game suffered yet another delay last month, but the confirmation of its inclusion to the Game Pass as a day one release is probably a good indicator it’s finally releasing. Fans of …

Amnesia: The Bunker Is Too Stressful For Me, But An Interesting Shift Away From The Series’ Linear Roots

Survival-horror games that allow me to fight back against whatever is trying to kill me are my jam. I like to exert a certain amount of control over my environment when trapped in frightful situations--it's how I cope. I don't dislike horror games where the main threat is an unkillable monster you just have to run away from. I'm just usually paralyzed with indecision and fear and wish I were literally anywhere else when trying to play them.It made checking out Amnesia: The Bunker at GDC particularly…

Frictional working on “‘SOMA’-style” game alongside ‘Amnesia: The Bunker’

Frictional Games is working on a new “SOMA-style” title alongside Amnesia: The Bunker. Originally released by the studio in 2015, SOMA is a sci-fi horror game “set below the waves of the Atlantic ocean”. Players were tasked with surviving the sort of “hostile world” that would make them “question their very existence.” Since then though, Frictional Games has been focused on the long-running Amnesia series, with The Bunker due for release later this year, following on 2020’s Amnesia: Rebirth. However in a new interview…
