Creating immersive Apple Vision Pro videos requires cameras that don’t exist yet, but Canon’s working to change that

The Apple Vision Pro has been on sale for more than a month now and while some of the excitement has started to die down, it's still one of the hottest products around. So much so that it's a topic of discussion among other companies as they try to get their ducks in a row for a post-Apple Vision Pro world. Camera-maker Canon is one such company, and it's already hard at work to make cameras that are designed to cope with the extremely high demands of creating content for use on mixed reality headsets. The Apple Vision…

Traveling with Canon’s entry-level EOS R8 and R100 mirrorless cameras

Two weeks ago I was thinking about how to test Canon’s entry-level EOS R8 and EOS R100 cameras in the miserable French weather when I had a thought: “Hey, why not take a vacation to a warmer place to test these models?” After Googling the nearest location with 75 degree-plus weather, I found myself in the balmy Canary Islands. It turned out to be a great spot to take photos as well, so everything came together perfectly. Both cameras have far different price points, currently around $450 and $1,300, respectively. They’re…

Canon’s new QD-OLED tech is cheaper to manufacture than Samsung’s

Last updated: May 30th, 2023 at 07:56 UTC+02:00 Canon has developed its own QD-OLED display technology, reports Nikkei Asia. If the news is indeed true, Canon has become the second company after Samsung Display to have developed this display technology. The latest report also puts Canon in a position to compete with Samsung Display, the only brand in the market at the moment that offers QD-OLED TVs and monitors. But there’s more to the story that’s gonna make QD-OLED lovers very happy. Manufacturing QD-OLED panels…

The EOS R100 is Canon’s cheapest R-series mirrorless camera yet

Canon has unveiled its cheapest R-series camera yet, the $480 EOS R100 that's similar to the old EOS M50 II with a new mount. It's "designed for new, first-time mirrorless camera or existing interchangeable camera users who previously enjoyed EOS Rebel or EOS M cameras," the company said. For that price, though, it's missing some key features that you'd expect on a modern mirrorless camera.  The EOS R100 has a 24.2-megapixel APS-C sensor, and and offers slowish 6.5 fps burst speeds and Dual Pixel AF with face and eye…

The Morning After: A look at Canon’s new R6-II

Canon’s EOS R6 was a great camera with one fatal flaw: It couldn’t hold its temperature, so it overheated fairly regularly. Two years later, Canon has released a successor that should help restore its reputation after such a high-profile error. The EOS R6 Mark II gets a higher resolution 24.2-megapixel sensor, faster shooting speeds and better low-light performance. Steve Dent spent some time shooting with some R6-II prototypes and has plenty to say in his detailed write up. Canon has eliminated many of the thermal…

Some of Canon’s wireless Pixma printers are stuck in reboot loops

Over the last day or two, there have been a growing number of reports by people who own certain Canon Pixma printers that the devices either won’t turn on at all or, once turned on, get stuck in a reboot loop, cycling on and off as long as they’re plugged in. Verge reader Jamie pointed us to posts on Reddit about the problem and Canon’s own support forum, citing problems with models including the MX490, MX492, MB2010, and MG7520. Some believe their problem is due to a software update Canon pushed to the printers, but…
