Researchers turned dead spiders into literal claw machines

While we’ve seen scientists find novel ways to use insects after they’re dead, it’s hard to imagine any group of researchers topping the work of a team from Rice University that turned lifeless wolf spiders into “necrobotic” grippers. Yes, you read that right – and, no, you’re not the only one with a sudden phantom itch. How did we get here? Well, I’m glad you asked. Let’s start with an anatomy lesson. Unlike human beings, spiders don’t have antagonistic muscle pairs to move their limbs. Instead, they rely on blood…

Claw ANC7 Active Noise Cancelling Earphones Review

We've reviewed a bunch of active noise cancelling headphones, and if there's one thing they all have in common, it's high pricing. The feature is a premium one that is typically only seen on high-end headphones, and is usually combined with Bluetooth connectivity for maximum on-the-go convenience. The product we're reviewing here — the Claw ANC7 noise cancelling earphones — defies both these norms.Priced at Rs. 3,790, the Claw ANC7 is one of the most affordable headsets you can buy today with active noise cancellation.…

Obscure Batman villain Red Claw makes her first appearance in DC Comics

The final page of this week’s Catwoman held a big surprise for fans of Batman: The Animated Series: the first appearance of Red Claw in DC Comics continuity. What, you don’t remember Red Claw, the vaguely Eastern European terrorist leader, voiced through a delightfully sneering G.I. Joe-worthy accent by none other than a pre-Star Trek: Voyager Kate Mulgrew? She was in three whole episodes! OK, so maybe not every fan of Batman: The Animated Series remembers Red Claw. But an imperiously severe woman voiced by Kate…

Monstrous “Claw Mark” Scratches on the Surface of Mars

This image from ESA’s Mars Express shows part of a large fault system on Mars known as Tantalus Fossae. This image comprises data gathered by Mars Express’ High Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC) on July 19, 2021. It was created using data from the nadir channel, the field of view aligned perpendicular to the surface of Mars, and the color channels of the HRSC. It is a ‘true color’ image, reflecting what would be seen by the human eye if looking at this region of Mars. The ground resolution is approximately 18 m/pixel and…

ESA’s Latest Picture Reveals ‘Claw Marks’ on Martian Surface

A unique characteristic of the geology of Mars has been revealed in breathtaking clarity in the latest release from the European Space Agency's (ESA's) Mars Express orbiter. The surface of the Red Planet appears to have enormous scratches across it. These marks, however, are part of the Tantalus Fossae, a massive fault system on Mars. Apart from the image's detail, the size here is another important feature to notice: these troughs can be up to 350 metres (1,148 feet) deep, 10 kilometres wide, and continue for up to 1,000…

Breathtaking New Images Show Giant ‘Claw Marks’ on The Surface of Mars

While it still has plenty of mysteries for us to solve, Mars is becoming clearer to us every day, thanks to the dozen functioning robots we currently have either on the red planet's surface or in its orbit.  In this latest release from the European Space Agency's (ESA) Mars Express orbiter, a unique feature of Mars's geology is shown with breathtaking detail.Looking like giant scratches across the planet's surface, these grooves are part of a giant fault system on Mars known as Tantalus Fossae.Aside from the detail in…
