Two years later, the firm is preparing to open at 255 Fillmore St. Solidcore signed a 10-year lease for 1,900 square feet on the ground floor of the office building developed by Matt Joblon’s Denver-based BMC Investments. BMC completed the building last year. Joshua Rainey, Solidcore’s director of real estate, said that…

Golden eyes tubing reservation system on Clear Creek

As another season of tubing down Clear Creek in Golden beckons, the city is considering a novel approach to controlling the crowds that descend on the popular waterway: a reservation system. The discussions are still in the early stages and the system, if it moves forward, wouldn’t be implemented until 2025. But the mere idea of requiring people to sign up for a float down Clear Creek is a testament to the increasing number of people Golden has had to manage on the water in recent years, especially in the wake of a…

Arvada luxury home development finally rises near Coal Creek Canyon

It’s been nearly 44 years since Terry Ten Eyck bought 35 acres at the mouth of Coal Creek Canyon, motivated by a dream of buying up more land and building a community of custom-made luxury homes. After several lawsuits, a failed ballot measure to thwart the development and a cratered real estate scene during the Great Recession, the first two homes in Canyon Pines finally have begun to rise from the ground at the base of Coal Creek Peak. The construction is Arvada’s first major residential foray west of Colorado 93, where…

Deer Creek Golf Course is closed in Jeffco, overrun with weeds

Deer Creek Golf Course is dying. Where once lay verdant fairways, the 18-hole course near Jefferson County’s Ken Caryl Ranch community is now largely weeds, cattails and long grasses. Nature, inexorably, reclaims its own. No one has played a legitimate round of golf here in three years. The clubhouse sits empty and forlorn, with a four-tiered fountain at its entry now dry and defunct. And though Deer Creek Golf Course claims on its website that it is merely “closed for renovation” and looks forward “to serving you in the…

William H. Macy describes his first visit to the mountains near Aspen, Colorado, as “pretty much love at first sight.” It was sometime in the mid-1980s, Macy recalls, and he was traveling with then-girlfriend Felicity Huffman back to the area where she grew up. “Her mom was a magnificent cook, and they ride horses,” Macy said. “From a middle-class boy, I thought it was beyond the beyond.” These days, the actor is embedded in the local beverage community. He and Huffman own a home and some land in Woody Creek where they…
