Ray Parker Jr.’s 1984 anthem has us thinking about the pop songs so prominently featured in some of our favorite sci-fi, animated, and superhero movies, they’ve become just as well-known as the movies they’re featured in. Sometimes, soundtrack cuts become even more popular than the theme songs themselves—like with The Lost Boys’ sax-man jam “I Still Believe” overshadowing “Cry Little Sister (Theme

‘Devo’ Documentary at Sundance Is Perfect Tribute to the Iconic Band

There were red flowerpot hats on each of the seats. The “Energy Domes,” as they used to call them, were Devo‘s headgear of choice during the early 1980s, back when the band went from extremely bizarre, unclassifiable group to extremely bizarre, slightly more classifiable (postpunk, New Wave, geek rock) group who’d somehow turn a single entitled “Whip It” into a massive hit. No one the Sundance Film Festival audience to put them on before the premiere of Devo, Chris Smith’s documentary on the pride of Akron, Ohio. But…

Sundance Doc Turns Brian Eno’s Career Into a Perpetual AI Remix

You can never step in the same river twice. And, unless you are blessed with an infinite amount of patience, time, and mortality, you can never see the same version of the Sundance documentary Eno twice. This is by design. Brian Eno — former Roxy Music member, legendary recording producer, Berlin-era Bowie bestie, ambient music pioneer, and a man who rocked a Seventies kimono like no other — is not someone who likes dwelling on the past or being pinned down. The idea of a movie chronicling his 50-year career…

More and More Americans Want to Attend Church Digitally

Image: Tatiana Neporada (Shutterstock)From a certain angle, you’d think that America had given up on religion. Our pop culture these days is about as secular as you can get and, for younger generations, organized religion seems increasingly like a thing to be avoided. To hear some tell it, you’d be hard pressed to find a millennial or Gen Z-er that wants to go anywhere near a church. But while religiosity may be waning in the U.S., the truth is that a majority of Americans are still connected to one faith or another.
