2024’s big gaming anniversaries: Half-Life 2, Warcraft, and more

2024 isn’t going to be as jam-packed with new AAA games as 2022 and 2023 were, giving us more time to go back and appreciate the classics. Anniversaries and the celebrations that follow are commonplace in the video game industry, especially if that anniversary is a multiple of five. Plenty of fantastic, influential games will hit milestones this year, but a few stand out. Some could even offer teasers into what might be in store for 2024 if developers plan to celebrate their classics. Regardless of whether these…

Dragon Age: Dreadwolf teaser reintroduces the world of Thedas

It’s Dragon Age Day, and BioWare celebrated by releasing a new teaser trailer for Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. Titled “Thedas Calls”, this trailer gives us our first in-engine look at some places players will visit in the game. We also learned when we can expect to learn more about this title. The main throughline of the teaser is a dynamic map of Thedas, the world and continent on which the Dragon Age series is set. It jumps to different places in Thedas, like the city of Antiva and the beaches of Rivain, as different…

Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO Switches Studios as BioWare Shifts Focus to Dragon Age, Mass Effect

Star Wars: The Old Republic, the long-running space-set MMORPG, is changing studios. EA confirmed that it's shifting the development and operation of the game from BioWare to a third-party studio, Broadsword Online Games. The latter is best known for its ongoing work on the classic MMOs Ultima Online and Dark Age of Camelot. Broadsword was founded by Rob Denton, an ex-BioWare executive who also formed Mythic Entertainment. EA will continue to remain as the game's publisher while having BioWare divert its focus solely…

Dragon Age: Dreadwolf doesn’t seem to be coming out this year

It seemed like the release of the long-awaited BioWare RPG Dragon Age: Dreadwolf could finally happen this year, but the latest financial report from EA suggests that the game won’t be out before April 2024. It has been about eight-and-a-half years since the last game in the series, Dragon Age: Inquisition, was released. This fourth entry in the Dragon Age franchise reportedly had a rocky development before the current, single-player version of the game really got off the ground after the release of…

Absolution Creators on Characters and Connections

Image: BioWare/NetflixWith Netflix’s Dragon Age: Absolution, BioWare’s fantasy-RPG franchise makes a gradual return after having been previously in a bit of franchise limbo since 2015. The series hasn’t completely gone away thanks to comics and some books, but Absolution marks a real sense of change for the series ahead of the release of its fourth installment, Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. Even if that game may be another year or so out, this show comes at a time when more game franchises are being expanded upon with (usually)

6 Things We Loved, and 2 We Hated, About Dragon Age: Absolution

We Loved... The Balance of Personal and Worldly StakesImage: NetflixDragon Age II is the secret best Dragon Age game. But beyond its technical faults, it’s often derided for the fact that, after the nation-spanning existential threat of the Blight in Dragon Age Origins, its narrow focus on a small-time group of unlikely heroes largely gathered around the growing political and religious discord of a single city felt too small for what people expected out of a big, blockbuster fantasy RPG series. Absolution thankfully

Netflix’s Dragon Age Absolution is Solid, Charming Fun

Image: BioWare/NetflixEver since 2009, BioWare’s Dragon Age franchise has managed to carve out its own space in the fantasy genre. As much as the RPG series cribs from the classics to inform its own universe, there’s a unique flair that gives it an identity all its own. Even though the series has been, game wise, on ice since Dragon Age Inquisition was put to rest with 2015's “Trespasser” expansion, the demand for the franchise to return hasn’t really wavered in any meaningful way.As Dragon Age: Dreadwolf seems primed to

Dreadwolf and Absolution are Dragon Age’s Chance to Shine Again

Image: BioWare/EAThroughout the years, BioWare has become equally known for both the games it makes and the reactions surrounding those games. Most of the time, this relates to itssci-fi RPG Mass Effect, which is due to receive some type of resurgence within the next couple of years. And while you very much wouldn’t say that’s the only thing the Canadian developer is known for, it can be sometimes easy to overlook Dragon Age, the studio’s equally beloved fantasy-RPG series. But this month in particular has felt like a
