FCEV plug-in fuel cell hybrid is the future. Is it?

Honda invited us out to its US R&D Center in Torrance, California to drive the new fuel cell plug-in hybrid version of the CR-V, which gets released later this year. Is this first-ever hybrid between a battery EV and fuel cell EV the future of electric cars? Honda’s CR-V e:FCEV (say that ten times fast) is the first in a new generation of Honda’s fuel cell technology, much improved over the hydrogen fuel cells in its earlier fuel cell vehicles, the FCX and Clarity (the Clarity’s fuel cells are now…

Nikola hydrogen FCEV semi completes 400 mile trip – is it enough?

The port cartage and drayage specialists at Coyote Container successfully completed a 400-mile delivery in a Nikola Tre semi truck powered by a hydrogen fuel cell. William Hall, Managing Member and Founder of Coyote Container, drove the hydrogen Nikola over the hilly, 400-mile route that took the truck and its 17.7 ton trailer through California’s Altamont Pass and Grapevine Canyon on the I-5 interstate between the Port of Oakland and the Port of Los Angeles in Long Beach. An innovative, efficient hydrogen compressor for FCEV refueling stations

Southwest Research Institute has created an innovative, more efficient hydrogen compressor. The linear motor-driven reciprocating compressor (LMRC) is designed to compress hydrogen as a fuel source for hydrogen-powered cars. Unlike most hydrogen compressors, the LMRC is hermetically sealed and is driven by a linear motor that allows increased compression efficiency. Credit: Southwest Research Institute A new hydrogen…
