Tesla secures massive 1.6 GWh Megapack order for giant project

Tesla has secured a massive Megapack order for a new giant energy storage project that will likely become the largest in the world. The project in question is the Melbourne Renewable Energy Hub (MREH), which is located just outside of Melbourne. When completed, it will consist of 3 battery systems totaling 600 MW/1.6 GWh of capacity. That should make it one of the largest battery systems in the world. This week, we learned that Tesla is going to supply the batteries for the project. The…

Tesla announces 1 GWh of Powerwalls deployed in Europe

Tesla announces that it achieved the milestone of having deployed 1 GWh of Powerwalls in Europe. Its energy storage business is becoming a major division. Tesla launched its energy storage division all the way back in 2015 with the Powerwall. It took a while, but it has now become a significant company division. Last quarter, Tesla announced that it deployed a record 4 GWh of energy storage. That includes both Powerwalls and Megapacks – with the latter likely accounting for the majority of…

Tesla secures massive new 1 GWh Megapack project in Canada

Tesla has secured a massive new 1 GWh Megapack order for a large-scale energy storage project in Canada. Back in 2019, Tesla launched the Megapack; it was Tesla’s third stationary energy storage product after the Powerwall and Powerpack. A single Megapack unit is a container-sized “3 MWh battery system” with integrated modules, inverters, and thermal systems. With the bigger size and integrated power electronics, Tesla claims that the Megapack is 60% more energy-dense than its Powerpack. It…

CATL supplying 123 GWh of batteries to power Honda EVs

Honda is teaming up with China’s Contemporary Amperex Technology, or CATL as its best known, to supply batteries for over 1 million electric vehicles. CATL supplying 123 GWh of batteries to power Honda EVs The Japanese automaker and CATL jointly announced Thursday that Honda would purchase 123 GWh of batteries to power fully electric vehicles in China. Honda and CATL initially signed an agreement to form a strategic partnership for EV batteries in 2019. As part of the agreement, Honda…

VinFast energy division breaks ground on 5 GWh battery factory

Energy solutions division VinES – a member of Vingroup alongside VinFast – and Gotion Inc have broken ground on a 34.5 acre LFP battery factory designed with an annual capacity of 5 GWh. That equates to roughly 30 million battery cells per year to support future VinFast EVs. VinES Energy Solutions is the R&D division of Vingroup in Vietnam, focused specifically on energy storage applications and the manufacturing of battery technologies. At the speed that parent company VinGroup moves, it…

Panasonic aims for at least 30 GWh of batteries at new Kansas factory expected to supply Tesla

Panasonic announced today that it aims to produce 30 GWh of battery cells during the first phase of its new Kansas factory expected to supply Tesla’s vehicle production. Earlier this summer, Panasonic announced plans to build a new battery cell factory in Kansas to supply Tesla with more battery cells. Today, the Japanese battery manufacturer released more information about the project. We now know that Panasonic is planning to break ground in De Soto, Kansas, as soon as next month: Panasonic Energy Co., Ltd., a…

CATL announces giant new 100 GWh battery plant in Hungary

CATL, the world’s largest battery manufacturer, has announced a plan to build a giant new battery plant in Hungary to supply automakers like Mercedes-Benz and BMW. Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited, abbreviated as CATL, sort of came out of nowhere. It was founded only a decade ago and has quickly become the world’s largest battery cell manufacturer by supplying key companies in the electric revolution.
