Here’s why TikTok is cautioned by Italy’s watchdog

Italy's data protection authority has formally warned Chinese-owned video-sharing app TikTok about an alleged breach of existing European Union rules to safeguard user privacy, the watchdog said. The Italian watchdog said TikTok had told users in recent weeks that it was going to deliver targeted advertising to them starting July 13 without requesting consent to use data stored on their devices. In changing its privacy policy, TikTok claimed it was acting in the legitimate interests of the company and its partners,…

Italy’s town of diaries: where ordinary people’s memoirs are salvaged and celebrated | Books

When I was in my early 20s, I tried to keep a diary of my experiences as a student and teacher in Bologna. There was much to write about: I was teaching in one of the city’s largest secondary schools, attending lectures delivered by professors who seemed as ancient as the faculty’s medieval buildings and I was learning, painfully, that a certain British shabbiness is not considered a mark of sophistication in Italy, but its very opposite. Yet the diary contained none of this. It was, as the Italians say, uno sfogo, a…

Now, the river's water levels are so low that the…

"Fortunately the plant has worked regularly all throughout May, but when chips are not shipped we simply cannot build cars," he said after a meeting between the company and local workers' representatives. Stellantis confirmed the…

Italy’s Tonina Torrielli: ‘I didn’t know I was singing at the first Eurovision’ | Eurovision 2022

When Tonina Torrielli represented Italy in the Eurovision song contest in Lugano, Switzerland, in May 1956, not only did she never discover how well her song performed, as just the winner was announced after a secret vote, but she was not even aware she was taking part in the first edition of what was to become the biggest music competition in the world.“They packed me off, just like a parcel, to Lugano, without saying what it was for,” said Torrielli, who lives in Turin, where the 66th Eurovision song contest is taking…
