Jake Sully

June 7 Disney+ and HBO Max

Disney may have made billions with last year’s mega-blockbuster Avatar: The Way of Water, but for nowit’s going to share the streaming success. The James Cameron-directed sequel is coming to streaming on June 7 and though the film was distributed by Disney, Disney+ won’t be the only place to see it. You can see it there as well as Max, aka HBO Max.Andrew Callaghan Talks 'This Place Rules' This means that even more customers who have either not seen the continuing tales of Jake Sully, Neytiri, and the world of Pandora

Producer on Payakan as Breakout Character

With three more Avatar sequels on the way, it goes without saying the major characters will be back. Jake Sully, Neytiri, their kids, the evil Quaritch, etc. But one character introduced in the latest film didn’t have such a clear path. We’re talking of course about Payakan, the exiled Tulkun (the space whale) who befriends Jake and Neytiri’s middle child Lo’ak and helps save the day in the end.“Payakan will be back,” Jon Landau, a producer on the Avatar films, told the Wrap. He’d already confirmed this back in January

James Cameron Still Fetishizing Guns in Avatar The Way of Water

Image: 20th Century StudiosThere’s something very annoying about James Cameron’s self-righteous proclamation that he wouldn’t want to fetishize guns today. In an interview with Esquire, Middle East, Cameron said that “I don’t know if I would want to fetishize the gun, like I did on a couple of Terminator movies 30 years ago, in our current world.” Cameron went on to clarify that he “actually cut about 10 minutes of targeting gunplay action.” The irony of this statement is not lost on me. Jake Sully, a former marine, and

Avatar 2 Is White Man’s Fantasy of Indigenous Resistance

There’s the Cree-Metis’ filmmaker Danis Goulet’s recent Night Raiders or the late Mi’kmaw filmmaker Jeff Barnaby’s extremely timely last film, Blood Quantum, released for streaming near the beginning of the COVID pandemic. Both of those films look at

Way of Water Spoilers Discussed

Image: FoxAnother huge revelation in The Way of Water is that not only are the humans back on Pandora, but they’re also more ambitious this time around. Last time, they just wanted unobtanium (which oddly isn’t mentioned at all in this film). Now, with Earth quickly deteriorating, they want to move all of humanity there and take it over. Since that does not happen in The Way of Water, we’d imagine it’s a big storyline in the upcoming films. But, how do they plan to do that? We know killing Jake Sully is a big step, and the

Things to Know Before Seeing Avatar 2

Kids, let me tell you the story of Avatar.Image: FoxDespite the fact James Cameron’s original Avatar is the highest-grossing film of all time, there’s a good chance you haven’t seen it in a while. It’s a film many, many of us saw upon release, and even a good amount of people saw earlier this year for the re-release, but it’s not on TV all that much and, as a result, isn’t some kind of perennial experience for the majority of filmgoers. And yet, its long-awaited sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water, finally hits theaters

The Way of Water Is an Epic, Wonderful Movie

Few movies in history have come to theaters with the weight and expectations of Avatar: The Way of Water. Its director, James Cameron, has made four narrative sequels in his career and two of those, Aliens and Terminator 2: Judgment Day, are inarguably two of the best sequels of all-time. Avatar, though, is on a whole other level. Released in 2009, the groundbreaking cinematic achievement ended up being Cameron’s, and Hollywood’s, highest-grossing film ever, and he was so confident and enamored with the world he created,…

James Cameron Plotted Out the Events Between Avatar 1 and 2

Image: Warner Bros.Although we’ll likely never get a movie that takes place between Avatar and Avatar: The Way of Water, James Cameron apparently knows exactly how the main characters of his first film lived their lives during that time. In fact, he’s already written it. In a Way of Water press conference on Tuesday, Sam Worthington—who plays Jake Sully, the disabled ex-marine turned Na’vi freedom-fighter—revealed that Cameron gave him a massive manuscript before they began shooting the Avatar sequel that detailed the
