Nvidia is bringing ray tracing and DLSS 3 to your car

Tesla I know it sounds crazy, but a new MediaTek chip powered by Nvidia graphics promises to bring AAA gaming, ray tracing, and the coveted DLSS 3 to your car. The chips I’m talking about are MediaTek’s new Dimensity Auto Cockpit, which integrated an Nvidia GPU, along with a host of AI and gaming capabilities. It’s not clear what Nvidia graphics are packed on MediaTek’s chips, but clearly, they’re using some variation of the Ada Lovelace architecture we see on RTX 40-series GPUs. Those are the only GPUs that support…

A Frustratingly Archaic Action RPG

Released in 2012 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, the original Dragon’s Dogma was an action roleplaying game tailored to a very specific audience. Brutally difficult, the gameplay centered on open-world exploration with a survivalist touch, wherein players and their NPC (non-player character) companions must trek through a “persistent” world that — at the time — felt organic as shifting day-and-night cycles and changing weather conditions imbued its somewhat bland fantasy world with a sense of life. Heavy on…

AMD FSR 3.1 promises better visuals, support for Xbox

At GDC 2024, AMD has announced an update to FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution), its upscaling tech for improving frame rates in games. FSR 3.1 brings some predicted improvements to image quality and stability, but with it, also some changes to how it’s positioned as a platform. The main tweak is that FSR 3.1 frame generation is now “decoupled” from FSR upscaling for the purpose of working “with other upscaling solutions.” Presumably, this means with Intel’s XeSS or Nvidia’s DLSS. This hopefully also means that you can…

Unreal Engine demoes film-quality visuals in real time

Skydance Media / Unreal Engine During the State of Unreal keynote held at GDC 2024, Unreal Engine revealed some interesting new developments that are coming in the next update of its graphics engine. Developers will now be able to create authentic, highly dense environments and character details in real time in a way that just doesn’t seem to have been possible in the past. The company demoed these new capabilities during an early preview of Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, and it’s really quite impressive. The demo shows…

How to properly use Nvidia’s DLSS to improve PC gaming

Nvidia’s Deep Learning Super Sampling, or DLSS, has become a cornerstone feature of modern PC games. It started as a way to boost your performance by rendering a game at a lower resolution, but the prominence and popularity of DLSS have prompted Nvidia to add even more features under the name. Today, DLSS incorporates several different features, all of which leverage AI to boost performance and/or image quality. It can be intimidating if you’re a new RTX user, so I’m here to break down all of the increases of DLSS in…

Meet Blackwell, Nvidia’s next-generation GPU architecture

Nvidia We finally have our first taste of Nvidia’s next generation of GPUs, named Blackwell. Sure, they’re built for enterprises, and no, they won’t run Cyberpunk 2077 (at least not officially). But this is the first look we’ve have at what Nvidia is cooking up for its RTX 50-series GPUs, which are rumored to launched sometime in the next year. The GPU we have today is the B200 — Blackwell 200, if you can spot it — that comes packed with 208 billion transistors. The architecture is built on TSMC’s 4NP node, which is…

Nvidia’s AI game demo puts endless dialogue trees everywhere

Nvidia Nvidia did what we all knew was coming — it made an AI-driven game demo. In Convert Protocol, you play as a detective trying to track down a particular subject at a high-end hotel. The promise is sleuthing through conversations with non-playable characters (NPCs) to get what you need. Except in this demo, you use your microphone and voice to ask questions instead of choosing from a list of preset options. I saw the demo with a few other journalists in a small private showing. As the demo fired up and Nvidia’s…

Thankfully, that doesn’t mean cleaning out your wallet because Steam has launched its seasonal sale event to cut prices on tons of amazing games to some of the lowest we’ve seen. The Steam spring sale is here to raid your wallet

It's that time of year once again. The Steam spring sale is now live. It's typically not as extensive as the summer and winter editions, and there's no Steam Deck discount this time, unfortunately, but there are still plenty of deals worth paying attention to.Let's start with Baldur's Gate 3, which was the 2023 game of the year, according to The Game Awards and Steam itself. The RPG has dropped by 10 percent. A modest discount, but nothing to sniff at. Palworld, one of this year's biggest hits so far, is 10 percent off…
