The World’s Most Important Industry Has a New Captain—and She’s Piloting It Into the 21st Century

Around us at Zephyros, kids and silverware clamor and motorbikes cough, but Marina’s voice is barely above a whisper. “When the hippopotamuses quarrel, then the frogs get stepped on,” she says of geopolitical conflicts, including the war in Ukraine. She’s sphinxlike, at times. I’m starting to think she may have the rare quality that Fitzgerald’s characters called “repose,” a kind of physical self-possession seen only in people who lack neurotic tics like face-touching. Marina never fidgets. And her soft voice is not…

The Rock Likens Success to Piloting a Spaceship, Ironic When Black Adam Could Fly

via Warner Bros. Having attempted to move on from the failure of Black Adam, which appears to involve rewriting the history books by claiming he wasn’t planning to make himself the focus of his own corner of the DCU despite voluminous evidence to the contrary, Dwayne Johnson has focused his attention elsewhere. The most jacked energy drink salesman on the planet has instead pivoted towards shilling his ZOA brand to the masses, because nothing compensates for the failure to launch a superhero franchise than…

Touchlab to begin piloting its robotic skin sensors in a hospital setting • TechCrunch

Manipulation and sensing have long been considered two key pillars for unlocking robotics’ potential. There’s a fair bit of overlap between the two, of course. As grippers have become a fundamental element of industrial robotics, these systems require the proper mechanisms for interacting with the world around them. Vision has long been a key to all of this, but companies are increasingly looking to tacticity as a method for gathering data. Among other things, it gives the robot a better sense of how much pressure to…
