Sony Temporarily Pulls the Plug on PSVR2 Production

Photo: ESOlex (Shutterstock)Sony’s PlayStation VR 2 is barely a year old, and it appears it’s not catching on like the PS5 when it launched in 2020. There are so many PSVR2 headsets unsold that Sony put the production of new units on hold, according to a Bloomberg report Monday.Since its launch in Feb. 2023, Sony produced approximately 2 million PSVR2 units, each with a price tag of $550. However, the virtual reality headset has yet to take off with only 300,000 sold in the weeks after launch, as reported by Bloomberg

Xbox Series X vs. PS5: Which console should you buy?

Future Publishing When it comes to pure gaming power, two of the best systems the world has ever known are the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. Both platforms deliver brilliant 4K HDR performance, on top of terrific internal storage, great designs, and web-connected features.  While these systems are made by two different companies, the peripherals have many things in common. But they also have a few key differences, and we’re going to cover them all in this side-by-side comparison of the Series X and PS5. Specs…

The Best Meta Quest 2 Deals and Bundles in February 2024

Meta All this hubbub about the Apple Vision Pro brings up one very good point: There are a ton of other VR headsets to choose from, including the Meta Quest 2. But here’s the best part, Meta Quest 2 deals mean the VR headset’s cost is a fraction of Apple Vision’s Pro’s price. Plus, with the launch of Meta Quest 3, we’re seeing the Quest 2 prices drop even lower than before. Yes, it’s still an excellent headset to buy with the new model out, and, at the risk of repeating ourselves, that lower price point is super…

Firewall Ultra developer is shutting down – Destructoid

First Contact Entertainment is a studio specializing in VR games, and it is behind titles like Firewall: Zero Hour and Firewall Ultra. It has announced that it will be shutting down by the end of the year. According to the announcement from the studio, a “lack of support for VR within the industry has eventually taken its toll.” Though the company wishes it could continue with its AAA VR projects, it has become impossible to justify the expenses. This is notable news for the VR community, as Firewall: Zero Hour…

PlayStation set up dominos in 2023. But will they fall in 2024?

2023 has already become a strong contender for the best year in gaming ever (at least when it comes to newly released games), but we’ve yet to see how it’ll be remembered for PlayStation long-term. It currently stands as an experimental year filled with massive gambles that we won’t see the results of until 2024 at the earliest. From an outside perspective, 2023 might’ve seemed like PlayStation was resting on its laurels. With more hit third-party releases than most people could reasonably handle hitting on a near…

This one, crucial thing will make or break Apple Vision Pro

Apple I’m hugely excited about the Apple Vision Pro, but I’m also aware of how much of a risk it is. Not because it’s a hugely expensive VR headset — but because I wear spectacles to correct my vision. I’m not alone either, obviously. The Vision Council claims more than 166 million adults in the U.S. do the same, and the number may reach 2.2 billion when the entire world is taken into account. Apple needs to take spectacle wearers as seriously as it does the technology inside the Vision Pro and the 23-million-pixel…

Apple Vision Pro looks amazing — unless you love VR gaming

The cat’s finally out of the bag: Apple is entering the AR/VR world in a big way. Revealed during the company’s annual WWDC stream, the Apple Vision Pro is an impressive XR headset that can be used for anything from writing emails to watching movies. Apple calls the device the “most advanced personal electronics device ever,” and that might be true — though the jury’s out on whether or not it’s worth the jaw-dropping $3,500 price tag. Heading into the long-rumored reveal, there was one use case I was most curious…

Apple Vision Pro will support over 100 Apple Arcade games

The new Apple Vision Pro headset can be a gaming device thanks to DualSense functionality and support for lots of Apple Arcade titles. Apple We learned this while Apple was giving an overview of the Vision Pro’s entertainment possibilities during the device’s WWDC 2023 reveal. We saw footage of a person playing NBA 2K23 Arcade Edition with a DualSense controller while wearing the headset. The game appeared in its own dedicated flat window within the surrounding environment, so these aren’t fully immersive…
