The Pretenders at Glastonbury review – Chrissie Hynde in the pocket with Johnny Marr and Dave Grohl | Glastonbury 2023

‘We don’t have to get fat / We don’t have to get old / We don’t have to fade to black,” Chrissie Hynde told the crowd in her idiosyncratic smooth roar. It’s off the new album, Relentless. “I like the definition,” she told NME last month, “showing no abatement of intensity. It’s the life of the artist. You never retire. You become relentless.” While this is very much the spirit of the 2023 line-up – never retire, never surrender – Hynde is peculiarly unchanged in her every particular, from the sinewy rock sprite look to…

First Transformers Rise of the Beasts Reviews Are Very Positive

After years of being brutalized by godawful Transformers movies, audiences are seemingly not yet ready for the idea of a good one. So even though Bumblebee, the last Transformers movie, was actually good, it’s unclear if audiences are yet ready to accept such a thing. Spoilers of the Week: July 1stThe new film, Transformers:

Rise of the Beasts Gets New Action-Heavy Trailer

Screenshot: ParamountIt’s been five years since Paramount’s Transformers franchise underwent a soft reboot with the 80s throwback (and fairly charming) movie Bumblebee. The next entry in the series, Rise of the Beasts, operates in the same new timeline first formed by Bumblebee, and brings with it some new blood. Along with Creed II’s Steven Caple Jr. in the director’s chair, the film is introducing some shiny new robots in the form of the Maximals, Predacons and Terrorcons.Bryce Dallas Howard on a Feature Star Wars Film

The Pretenders review – Chrissie Hynde is still the talk of the town | Music

“All my old favourites seem tired and old,” sings Chrissie Hynde, performing the Pretenders’ new song Losing Sense for the very first time. As far as opening salvos go, it amounts to a manifesto of what not to be – and during the 80 minutes that follow, they sound and look anything but worn out or jaded. Hynde is 71, but with her piled up hair, trademark kohl eyeliner, black faux leather waistcoat and guitar strapped on like a rifle, she’s still the epitome of an iconic rock star, a visible role model to the young women…
