Safe Browsing on Google Chrome adds real-time protection against malicious sites

Google says it's upgrading the default Safe Browsing mode in Chrome to offer better protection against malicious websites. Until now, this mode has used a locally stored list to check whether a site or file may be dangerous. The list updates every 30-60 minutes but Google says that a malicious website only exists for 10 minutes on average. To combat that, Google is drawing from a feature in Safe Browsing’s Enhanced protection mode to check sites against a server-side list of known unsafe sites in real-time. The Enhanced…

Google Chrome Safe Browsing Feature Updated With Real-Time Privacy-Preserving URL Protection

Google Chrome offers users a Safe Browsing feature that checks for malicious URLs before loading web pages, and the search giant has now given it a major upgrade — a privacy-preserving real-time link scanning mechanism that checks an encrypted version of links that a user is visiting via an independently operated server. While the company claims that the 'standard' version of the browser's Safe Browsing feature is much more effective at detecting threats, the 'enhanced' version will still be more effective against…

Scientists Develop New Material That Can Dynamically Tune Its Shape and Mechanical Properties in Real-Time

Researchers have created a novel metamaterial that can dynamically tune its shape and properties in real-time, offering unprecedented adaptability for applications in robotics and smart materials. This development bridges the gap between current materials and the adaptability seen in nature, paving the way for the future of adaptive technologies. Credit: UNISTDrawing inspiration from the extraordinary adaptability seen in biological entities such as the octopus, a significant advancement in the field of soft robotics has…

UK startup launches AI satellite to provide near real-time images of Earth

UK-based space tech startup Open Cosmos has successfully launched a new AI-powered satellite that can provide near real-time views of Earth.  The satellite, HAMMER — short for Hyperspectral AI for Marine Monitoring and Emergency Response — was successfully blasted into orbit Monday aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.  Its mission is to provide high-resolution imaging from across the Atlantic ocean to help authorities monitor the marine environment or respond to natural disasters as they happen. …

IIT researchers develop marine robot for real-time underwater surveillance, reducing human life risk

Researchers at the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) Mandi and Palakkad have developed a marine robot that can cater to real-time problems and reduce maintenance cost and death risk for underwater operation scenarios. The research which was partially funded by the Naval Research Board (NRB) of Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has been published in two journals-- Journal of Intelligent and Robotic Systems, and Ocean Engineering. The state-of-the-art robot has been developed for meticulous underwater…

Helldivers 2 has a ‘Game Master’ modifying the galactic war in real-time

Despite mostly going under the radar before it came out, Helldivers 2 proved that it’s got what it takes to reach the top charts. With a concurrent player cap of 700,000 players, Helldivers 2 has now revealed that it’s got a veritable “Game Master” coordinating its war efforts. Notably, it’s plain as day that Helldivers 2‘s galactic war efforts are not just a randomized series of combat scenarios thrown together by an algorithm. A prime example of this being the case was the rapid onslaught of Automaton forces after…

From Batch ML To Real-Time ML

Real-time machine learning refers to the application of machine learning algorithms that continuously learn from incoming data and make predictions or decisions in real-time. Unlike batch machine learning, where data is collected over a period and processed in batches offline, real-time ML operates instantaneously on streaming data, allowing for immediate responses to changes or events. Common use cases include fraud detection in financial transactions, predictive maintenance in manufacturing, recommendation systems in…
