We’re About to See a Rare and Record-Setting May Heat Wave

It may still be spring, but baking summer heat is about to hit the famously comfortable Pacific Northwest and western Canada. Starting this weekend, the heat wave will send temperatures soaring 20 to 25 degrees Fahrenheit above average in some spots and potentially break records. This event won’t reach the heights of the punishing heat dome that obliterated records in the region in June 2021 and contributed to hundreds of deaths. But it still raises public health concerns in an area that is known for its cool, gentle…

Another approximately two million took to the streets of London, under the close watch of AI.  In the lead-up to the coronation, the Metropolitan Police confirmed that it would deploy live facial recognition technology — which scans faces and matches them against a list of people wanted for alleged crimes — across…

‘Quantumania’ Continues its Record-Setting Box Office Downward Spiral

via Marvel Studios In a rare defense of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, it never stood a chance of topping the box office for a third consecutive weekend when Creed III was on the horizon, but another 61 percent drop for the free-falling Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel was still an alarming drop. This is what’s known as a volumetric attack that consumes the target website’s bandwidth by sending large amounts of data from multiple sources at once.…

Google slapped with record-setting antitrust fine in the EU

Google has been handed a blistering setback totaling over $4 billion in Europe. The company was slapped with a record fine by the European Union in 2018, following a 2015 investigation alleging that the company abused its market position as the dominant smartphone operating system (via Android) and engaged in anticompetitive practices. Google appealed the fine, but the European Court of Justice has rejected it and has largely upheld the original penalty. The commission originally imposed a fine worth 4.343 billion…
