Census data shows population growth bouncing back

Population growth in Colorado accelerated this year, but it remains significantly below the pre-pandemic pace and gains fell short of what state demographers had expected. Colorado added 36,571 people to its population over the past year, bringing the total to 5,877,610 as of July 1 of this year, according to vintage estimates the U.S. Census Bureau released last week. That is up from a gain of 29,443 people in the July 1, 2022, count and 26,377 in the July 1, 2021, count. But even though population gains were 24% higher…

Slower migration, deaths and fertility rate drop have slowed Colorado’s growth

Colorado’s population is growing at its slowest pace on record, with domestic net migration turning negative last year and the population declines long seen on the Eastern Plains taking hold in one large Front Range county. Time will tell if the slowdown is temporary, as state demographers predict, or the start of a new trend. But Colorado’s ability to attract newcomers carries huge implications for its economic future, from filling open jobs to providing care for the surging number of older residents. “If we don’t see…

The Sunak government’s desire to attract crypto could give impetus to attempts to build a more comprehensive regime for the industry. But it could also create competing incentives. Critics of the government’s approach say they fear that expediting regulations and giving the crypto industry too much room to maneuver could lead to decisions that expose consumers to risks, or end up undermining long-running attempts to prevent financial crimes, such as money laundering and terrorist financing. The message lobbyists are…

Eskape review – moving tale of a refugee’s dangerous journey out of Cambodia | Documentary films

With echoes of her sublime debut Angkar, which grappled with the horrors of the Pol Pot regime through her father’s perspective as he returned to Cambodia after a 40-year absence, Neary Adeline Hay’s new documentary is a moving companion piece.
