Elon Musk: automakers don’t believe Tesla Full Self-Driving is real

Elon Musk says that other automakers don’t believe Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) is “real” as Tesla tries to sell FSD licenses. Back in 2021, Musk did say that he had early discussions with other automakers about licensing self-driving technology, but that didn’t lead to anything. Last year, the CEO made an announcement that Tesla would be open to licensing Autopilot and FSD to other automakers. During Tesla’s Q4 conference call that followed the release of the earnings, shareholders asked…

The Pittsburgh-based company, which also has facilities in California, Colorado, Texas and Montana, has since confirmed that about 3% of its workforce was laid off in the beginning of the year, following an organizational review. Tesla finally releases FSD v12, its last hope for self-driving

Tesla has finally started releasing its FSD Beta v12 update to customers, which is sort of its last hope to deliver on its self-driving promises. The Tesla v12 software update is expected to introduce what CEO Elon Musk has been calling “end-to-end neural nets”. The biggest difference with previous FSD updates is that the vehicle’s controls would now be handled by neural nets rather than being coded by programmers. Tesla writes in the release notes of the update: “FSD Beta v12 upgrades the…

Taming the dilemma of self-driving cars, ET Auto

Self-driving cars can be a boon for people who cannot drive due to age or disabilities, increasing their mobility and independence. New Delhi: Autonomous vehicles (AVs) or driverless cars are vehicles that can operate without human intervention by using a combination of advanced technologies to navigate and make driving decisions. AVs hold out the promise of being safer than manually driven cars. Yet they cannot be 100% safe as collisions are sometimes unavoidable. The

TuSimple’s self-driving trucks up for auction following US exit

Ten of TuSimple’s autonomous big rigs are set to be auctioned off later this month, just a few weeks after the self-driving trucking startup that went public in 2021 announced it was exiting the U.S. market. The first is slated to run January 23-25, and a second is scheduled for February 6-8. A spokesperson for the auction company confirmed 10 trucks will “initially”…

Why are self-driving cars exempt from traffic tickets in San Francisco? | Technology

Autonomous vehicles in San Francisco are exempt from traffic tickets if there is nobody in the driver’s seat, according to the San Francisco police department (SFPD), underscoring ongoing legal and safety concerns surrounding the expanding technology. California law has not caught up to the cars, even though they are already on the road, say public safety agencies and experts.SFPD policy states that officers can make a traffic stop of autonomous vehicles (AVs) for violations, but can only issue a citation if there is a…

Aurora and Continental pass first major hurdle in commercial self-driving trucks deal

Aurora and automotive supplier Continental have wrapped up the first phase of a more than $300 million project to mass produce autonomous vehicle hardware for commercial self-driving trucks. The two companies said Friday that the design and system architecture of an autonomous vehicle hardware kit is now complete. The blueprint for a secondary computer that can take over operation if a failure occurs — known as a fallback system — has also been finalized. The companies made the announcement…
