SIM swapping crimes are on the rise globally, according to a new report. These crimes are primarily committed using eSIM (Embedded Subscriber Identity Modules) users. eSIMs are digitally stored SIM cards which are embedded into a device using a software. El Paso, Elsewhere developer Strange Scaffold has announced a five-game deal with publisher Frosty Pop. As part of the announcement, they’ve revealed a trailer for their next game, Life Eater, which is out on April 16, 2024. I find this trailer rather unsettling. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGat8cjV0lU The trailer shows off the game’s timeline interface where you must learn the habits and schedule of your quarry so that you may find the opportunity to abduct them. You play as a “modern day druid” who is tasked with…

Early flight sim inspired Thunder Helix takes off into Early Access this month

David Walters has announced on Twitter that his “new helicopter game from 1992,” Thunder Helix, is launching on Steam Early Access on March 21. I’ve been keeping an eye on Thunder Helix for a while now. It’s a helicopter combat game made in the style of early PC flight sims. The style emulates the fractal landscapes used in pre-polygonal flight games, and goes as far as using a 256 color completely with pixel stippling. Although, the store blurb says it can also run at 16-bit color. I didn’t play very many of those…

Similar to the original HomePod, however, while not advertised by Apple, the cable is indeed removable.Ray Wong, on X, shared his experience with the Vision Pro battery pack and showcased how to remove the cable from the battery with a simple SIM ejector tool.…

Sunkissed City is an urban life sim with shades of Stardew Valley

Mr. Podunkian revealed the Steam store page for their upcoming city life simulator, Sunkissed City, which is coming to PC sometime in late 2024. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the handheld version of The Urbz. Nor does it look like the console version of The Urbz. It looks more like Stardew Valley, which makes sense because Mr. Podunkian previously worked at Stardew Valley developer Concerned Ape. If you liked Stardew Valley, but felt like it needed more concrete, then this might be for you. In Sunkissed City,…

What is SIM swapping? How the SEC’s Twitter account got hacked

Just after the stock market closed on January 9, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission posted on X (née Twitter) that it had approved exchange-traded funds, or ETFs, that included the cryptocurrency bitcoin. It was a massively important, potentially market-moving announcement, and one that was hotly anticipated by crypto fanatics, professional traders, and casual investors alike. There was only one problem: The SEC never posted that announcement—someone else did.Fifteen minutes after the false post went up, agency…
