Baldur’s Gate 3 Players Are Speedrunning Companion Romances

Part of what makes Baldur's Gate 3 such a compelling game is developer Larian Studios' commitment to player freedom and choice. Players can approach everything from combat and puzzles to character development in a multitude of ways. Naturally, speedrunners are getting in on the action, but in a rather hilarious turn of events, they aren't just speedrunning dungeons and boss fights--they're speedrunning companion romances, too.Baldur's Gate 3 features a number of well-written companions with a great deal…

Resident Evil 4 loses its best speedrunning trick in new update

Capcom has issued a patch for the Resident Evil 4 remake, which includes a handful of bug fixes, as well as the removal of a popular speedrun glitch. The glitch previously allowed players to warp through doors, leading to some incredibly fast completion times in the remake. Known as the Scope Glitch, players could continuously aim down the sights of a scoped weapon while standing behind a locked door to clip through it, removing the need to find keys or alternate routes. The glitch was a bit finicky to perform, but…

How to watch the Awesome Games Done Quick 2023 speedrunning marathon

It’s almost time for Games Done Quick’s first speedrunning extravaganza of the year. The 2023 edition of Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ) kicks off on Sunday, and this year’s event looks to once again feature a week-long feast of incredible gaming feats. The first game on tap is an any-percent run of Splatoon 3, meaning the runner can use any means necessary to beat the game, and I can’t wait to see how an expert inks their way to the ending in just over an hour. That’s followed by a 29-minute run of The Legend of Zelda:…

‘Cuphead’ player climbs largest mountain in Vermont while speedrunning

Speedrunning YouTuber EasySpeezy recently undertook the challenge of speedrunning Cuphead while simultaneously climbing a mountain. By duct-taping a gaming laptop to a backpack, EasySpeezy was able to play Cuphead with a wired controller by closely following behind an accomplice wearing the backpack. The team’s strategy included Easy’s brother calling out obstacles in the speedrunner’s path so he wouldn’t have to look away from Cuphead while climbing. If a particularly challenging climbing section was ahead then Easy…

I watch speedrunning like my dad watches sports – Destructoid

Who knew speedrunning could be so comforting? When I was growing up, the sounds of sports were always all over our house. My dad likes pretty much every sport imaginable, from football to baseball to track and field. A lot of the time I had no idea what was going on, but having a game on in the background made for the perfect backing track to take my Sunday afternoon naps. Sometimes when I want to feel extra cozy, I’ll find an old NFL game on YouTube to put on while I fall asleep. These days, the closest thing I get to…

Neon White review: demon-hunting speedrunning on the Switch and Steam

Neon White had me straining my neck with every seemingly out of reach jump — and I couldn’t get enough. Developed by Angel Matrix, a small team led by Donut County designer Ben Esposito, Neon White combines thrilling parkour action, a late ‘90s Quake-style aesthetic, and a bonkers story that’s kind of like if The Purge were set in the afterlife. It’s like speedrunning your way through heaven while making detours to learn more about angels and demons. It’s a seemingly odd combo, but it works very, very well. The premise…
