Tawny Newsome on Mariner’s Season 4 Arc

Star Trek: Lower Decks has been a riot since its first season, and Tawny Newsome’s Beckett Mariner is a big reason why. Over the course of the show’s four-season run, she’s gone from being a chaotic, self-destructive ensign to...well, still that, but now promoted to a junior grade lieutenant alongside the other Lower Deckers. Star Trek Lower Decks Season 3 Finale Recap: Hit the Reset

Image: ParamountStar Trek: Lower Decks has had a rough third season, with rare moments of eking out character growth cast under the shadow of a regressive feeling of pulling main characters traveling paths they’d already navigated. Its finale, for better or worse, at resets the show in some ways, so we can forget most of this season actually happened.Picking up from last week’s re-hash of the Captain Freeman/Mariner conflict that drove the first season of the show, “The Stars at Night” largely navigates away from that

Star Trek Lower Decks Season 3 Episode 9 Recap: Mariner Quits

Image: ParamountOutside of a few strong highs, Lower Decks’ third season has largely felt like a bit of a regression, with characters re-treading familiar arcs with little rhyme or reason. It’s perhaps fitting then, that as the season draws to a close, it sets the stage for a conflict the show already covered—except this time there might be a few more consequences, if we’re lucky. The catalyst for character chaos in “Trusted Sources” comesin the form of an arriving journalist, Victoria Nuzé from the Federation News

Star Trek Lower Decks Recap: Room for Growth

Image: ParamountStar Trek: Lower Decks’ third season has opened in a funny way. Not “ha-ha” funny, although there’s still plenty of that to be had. Instead, it’s of a more peculiar sort—the inescapable feeling that, no matter how good the gags remain, the show is unsure what steps forward it wants to take with its main characters. In fact, the perhaps fittingly named “Room for Growth” feels like a bit of a step back, in a season so far that has felt like a partial reset for the status quo of Boimler, Mariner, Tendi, and
