The DCU Swamp Thing Reboot Has To Adapt The Classic Alan Moore Comics Run, Right?

Certain elements of Moore's run featured in the 2019 show, which introduced a versions of Jason "The Floronic Man" Woodrue — whom Moore introduced as Swamp Thing's villainous counterpart — and explored the true nature of the titular character, as well as his-slash-its relationship with Abby Arcane. The series also uses Moore's groundbreaking version of Swamp Thing's origin story — that he isn't Alec Holland, but a genuinely inhuman elemental being that merely retains some of Holland's memories, and shapes…

Marvel’s Halloween special, Werewolf by Night, brings new flavors to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fen, Bog & Swamp by Annie Proulx review – where have all our wetlands gone? | Science and nature books

Hunter S Thompson once said that to get at the truth, especially about something terrible, you had to “get subjective”. He was talking about his sworn enemy Richard Nixon, but it applies just the same to the appalling damage we’re doing to our planet. Newspaper articles, charity reports and activist speeches abound – all earnest and arguably objective, but they somehow fail to capture the true meaning of what’s being lost in the natural world.Perhaps that’s why novelists writing about ecological issues is such a…

Swamp Songs by Tom Blass review – a wetlands odyssey | Science and nature books

You never know what horrors may be lurking at the bottom of a swamp. Bogs, meanwhile, sound comical. Marshes are pleasanter, although bring malaria to mind, while wetlands emanate wholesomeness but are also wet in the “meh” sense of take it or leave it. Yet, as Tom Blass explains, these words all refer to the same thing: a place where land and water have got into a tussle and can’t decide which has won. The result is not so much an equilibrium, although these states of semi-submersion can hold their nerve for millennia,…

This Ancient Swamp Was a Sex Death Trap For Frogs 45 Million Years Ago

If you want to lure a bunch of prehistoric frogs to a sticky end, the best way is the promise of amphibian hanky-panky.That's the conclusion paleontologists have arrived at after studying the remains of hundreds of ancient frogs that died in a swamp around 45 million years ago, in what we now know as Germany.  The findings offer a neat solution to the mystery of why the frogs died, which has been something of a puzzle since they were discovered in the fossil bed decades ago."As far as we can tell, the fossil frogs were…

Giant Bacteria Visible to the Naked Eye Discovered in Mangrove Swamp

T. magnifica filaments next to a dime for scale.Gif: Tomas TymlA team of scientists discovered a macroscopic species of bacterium living in the waters off Guadeloupe in the Caribbean, shifting the scales of how big we thought bacteria could be. The newly discovered species is named Thiomargarita (sulfur pearl) magnifica, and it is so large that its single cells are visible to the naked eye.Besides its superlative size, T. magnifica shows signs of increased complexity in bacteria. Instead of its DNA just floating around in
