VALL-E — The Future of Text to Speech? | by Elad Rapaport | Apr, 2023

A paper walkthrough of the new text-to-speech model by Microsoft ResearchDALL-E 2: a record player that receives text on one side, and outputs sound waves on the other side. digital art.Hello readers,In this article, we will dive deep into a new and exciting text-to-speech model developed by Microsoft Research, called VALL-E. The paper presenting the work has been released on Jan. 5, 2023, and since then has been gaining much attention online. It is worth noting that as of writing this article, no pre-trained model has…

Colorado ski resort owner buys stake in Chile’s Valle Nevado

The parent company of Durango’s Purgatory Resort recently expanded to the global ski market as the new majority owner of the largest ski resort in the Americas: Valle Nevado in Chile. It’s the first international resort for Mountain Capital Partners, which manages ski resorts and mountain bike parks in Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah and Texas. Microsoft’s Vall-E Could Find Use as a Way of Editing Speech

Microsoft’s Vall-E program might be useful for manipulating audio. Vall-E, a voice AI tool from Microsoft, is trained on 60,000 hours of speech—100 times more than current systems—from more than 7,000 speakers, the majority of whom are from LibriVox public domain audiobooks. It is also trained on “discrete codes derived from an off-the-shelf neural audio codec model.” According to Ars Technica, Vall-E is based on a technology called EnCodec, which Meta unveiled in October 2022. It functions by listening to a person’s…

Microsoft’s VALL-E- An AI tool that can Mimic Anyone’s Voice

Microsoft’s new AI bot VALL-E can be trained with only a three-second audio sample  An innovative text-to-speech AI model named VALL-E has been created by a team of Microsoft researchers. Once trained, it can replicate a person’s voice almost perfectly. The team requires only a three-second audio sample to train this Microsoft’s new AI bot.  Moreover, the researchers claim that once the AI tool learns a specific voice, VALL-E can synthesize audio of that person saying anything, and do it in a way that…

The Morning After: Microsoft’s VALL-E AI can replicate a voice from a three-second sample

Microsoft’s latest research in text-to-speech AI centers on a new AI model, VALL-E. While there are already multiple services that can create copies of your voice, they usually demand substantial input. Microsoft claims its model can simulate someone's voice from just a three-second audio sample. The speech can match both the timbre and emotional tone of the speaker – even the acoustics of a room. It could one day be used for customized or high-end text-to-speech applications, but like deepfakes, there are risks of…

Microsoft’s VALL-E AI can mimic any voice from a short audio sample

Microsoft has shown off its latest research in text-to-speech AI with a model called VALL-E that can simulate someone's voice from just a three-second audio sample, Ars Technica has reported. The speech can not only match the timbre but also the emotional tone of the speaker, and even the acoustics of a room. It could one day be used for customized or high-end text-to-speech applications, though like deepfakes, it carries risks of misuse.  VALL-E is what Microsoft calls a "neural codec language model." It's derived from…
