Scientists Have Created the World’s Smallest, Lightest, and Fastest Fully Functional Micro-Robots

Researchers at Washington State University have developed the smallest and fastest micro-robots, potentially transforming fields from artificial pollination to surgery. Utilizing shape memory alloys for movement, these robots—significantly lighter and quicker than previous models—aspire to achieve greater autonomy and efficiency by mimicking natural insect behavior. ZTE launches Libero Flip, the world’s cheapest foldable smartphone

ZTE has just made foldable smartphones incredibly affordable. The Chinese firm collaborated with Japanese telecom company Y!mobile, a subsidiary of SoftBank Group, to launch a clamshell folding phone at just $420. The ZTE Libero Flip is available for pre-order in Japan, with sales beginning on February 29. There is no word yet on the global release of the world’s cheapest foldable. The ZTE Libero Flip made mid-range foldables a thing Foldable phones are generally more expensive than regular smartphones. Before ZTE…

Europe was world’s top target for cyberattacks in 2023

Cyberattacks hit Europe more than any other region in 2023, according to new research from IBM. The continent accounted for a whopping 32% of incidents analysed by the tech giant. That pushes it past last year’s biggest target, Asia-Pacific, which drops from first to third with 23%. North America jumps into second place with 26% of all cases. Across the globe, the biggest technical shift was the growing abuse of user identities. Attacks harnessing valid credentials surged by 71%…

I tested the world’s fastest SSD and the results will make power users cry

The Crucial T705 PCIe Gen5 NVMe M.2 SSD features a monster heatsink. Adrian Kingsley-Hughes/ZDNETZDNET's key takeawaysCrucial's new T705 PCIe Gen5 NVMe M.2 SSD will see global release on March 12, but can be pre-ordered now.Delivers blazing fast performance, with option of heatsink version or bare SSD.It's expensive, and not everyone can benefit from the performance it offers.Over the years, I've observed a tendency among users to blame their PC's sluggishness on the CPU or RAM. However, more often than not, the real…

Inside the hunt for new physics at the world’s largest particle collider

Not everyone is fully on board. Some theorists worry that the approach will only yield more false alarms from the collider—more tentative blips in the data like “two-sigma bumps,” so named for their low level of statistical certainty. These are generally flukes that eventually disappear with more data and analysis. Koren is concerned that this will be even more the case with such an open-ended technique: “It seems they want to have a machine that finds more two-sigma bumps at the LHC.”  Nachman told me that he received a…

Webb discovers ice worlds on the outskirts of our solar system

The Kuiper Belt is a donut-shaped region that surrounds most of our solar system. This region is known as the home of Pluto, a dwarf planet that was originally considered one of the nine planets in our solar system. Not much is known about the Kuiper Belt other than that it’s full of “dead” objects. Now, though, Webb has discovered new ice worlds that don’t appear to be dead after all.Curious to learn more about the Kuiper Belt and its icy inhabitants, astronomers pointed the James Webb space telescope at the…

The world’s thinnest foldable phone gets a Porsche Design makeover

The Magic V2 RSR is still powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, but with storage option limited to just 1TB to go with the 16GB of RAM. The rest of the spec sheet is identical for both Magic V2 variants. For displays, you get a 7.92-inch 2,344 x 2,156 foldable OLED screen (with a barely-noticeable crease) and a 6.43-inch 2,376 x 1,060 exterior OLED display, with their brightness going up to 1,600 nits and 2,500 nits, respectively. For audio, this…

Japan launches LignoSat: World’s first wooden satellite to combat space debris

In a pioneering effort to address the growing concern of space debris, Japanese scientists from Kyoto University, in collaboration with Sumitomo Forestry, have developed a unique spacecraft known as the LignoSat. What sets this satellite apart is its construction material- magnolia wood. The decision to explore wood as a viable alternative to traditional satellite metals stems from the environmental impact caused by burning satellites re-entering Earth's atmosphere. Tiny alumina particles generated during this process…

We tested the world’s cleanest snowmobile — and it goes like a rocket

With the flip of a switch, the snowmobile springs to life. The batteries beneath my seat engage, and launch me at lightning speed through the fresh white powder ahead. Soon I am gliding across a frozen lake in Swedish Lapland like a speedboat on water.  Mindful not to get carried away, I loop back toward the starting point, engaging the brakes just before the treeline. The sled skids to a halt. The low whine of its electric motor instantly replaced by the eery quiet of the Arctic.    “You can…
