Tanla Platforms: Tanla Platforms unveils AI-based anti-phishing chatbot to detect scam messages
Indian CPAAS (communications platform as a service) player Tanla Platforms unveiled an anti-phishing chatbot that relies on artificial intelligence to detect fraud and scam messages received by users daily, amidst a concerted effort by Indian authorities to check the growing menace.

The chatbot can be used by individuals to identify and avoid online scams, majority of which are carried out through SMS.
In a statement, the company said phishing accounts for around 65% of cyber attacks, which with the help of the tool can be detected with almost 99% accuracy.
“SMS is the biggest channel of phishing in India, with one out every 12th person vulnerable every month,” said Sunil Bajpai, chief trust officer at Tanla Platforms. He added that 120-150 million phishing messages are sent every month, with 60-75 million unique citizens vulnerable from attacks.
“0.1 to 0.3 million citizens potentially get scammed every month, but only 35,000-45,000 reported it,” he added.
The chatbot, called WiseATP Spotlight, works on WhatsApp, and provides a user-friendly interface. It works using artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms, allowing users to directly investigate any suspicious messages, and receive a clear verdict on their legitimacy.

The chatbot itself draws from the intelligence leveraged by Tanla’s Wisely ATP, a flagship platform that is used by enterprises to combat SMS phishing using three proprietary, patent pending engines that leverages technologies such as convoluted neural networks, natural language processing, large language models, deep learning and web of trust, the company said.Bajpai said scammers use over 10 use cases including fake job offers, banking related scams, investment opportunities and more to target vulnerable users.
However, around 84% of the URLs embedded by scammers in messages become defunct in less than 24 hours, the executive said, adding that timely detection is crucial to curb this menace.
The company’s flagship WiselyATP product is already being used by the top three of the five publicly listed banks in India.
In an illustrative average for a single enterprise, the tool was able to detect and block over 15 million scam attacks in real time, protecting 4.2 million Indian citizens, the company said.
