0 109

Tata Motors is all set to launch the long-range Nexon EV aka Nexon EV Max on 11th May. According to Autocar India, the Nexon EV Max will come with a more powerful electric motor. It would produce 136 hp, which is an increase of 7 hp over the current Nexon EV.

Last year, a document was leaked that revealed that the Nexon EV will be getting a boost. However, that did not happen. Now, it does make sense that the 136 hp electric motor will be debuting with the Nexon EV Max. As of now, we do not know if the torque output will be increased or not. The current Nexon EV produces 245 Nm.

New teasers launched

Tata Motors has started releasing new teasers of the Nexon EV Max ahead of launch. The teasers reveal the new drive selector rotary dial which comes with a chrome bezel and a screen that shows which gear is the driver in.

The manufacturer has also added a park mode and there are two drive modes on offer. There is Eco and Sport. It also gets an electronic parking brake with an auto-hold function. Moreover, you can also see a set of buttons for adjustable regeneration which will further help in increasing the driving range of the electric compact SUV.

On the exterior, the Nexon EV Max stays the same as the regular Nexon EV. The only differences that we are expecting are some badges to recognize that it is the Max variant. The teasers already show the new 5-spoke alloy wheels that look like diamond-cut units. The LED Daytime Running Lamps, projector headlamps, bumpers, grille etc. are the same as the regular Nexon EV.

The biggest change is the new battery which is larger than the current Nexon EV. It is now expected to be 40 kWh whereas the regular Nexon EV gets a 30.2 kWh battery pack. The biggest advantage of the larger battery pack is more driving range. The claimed driving range could go up from 312 km to 400 km. The real-world driving range of the Nexon EV is 200-220 km which should be bumped up to around 300 km.

The media reports also suggest that Tata will offer a 6.6 kW AC charger as an option. This would help in charging the SUV faster. As of now, the Nexon EV comes with a 3.3 kW charger which would continue to be offered as standard.

The additional batteries would be placed in the boot space which means that it would decrease. The Nexon EV and Nexon have a boot space of 350 litres. More batteries mean more weight. To handle the additional weight and add to the stopping power, Tata Motors would offer rear disc brakes with the Nexon EV Max.
