Tata Motors’ star performer, the Nexon, has once again scored a 5-star rating in the Global NCAP crash test. Tata recently launched the facelifted version of the Nexon, and it was due for testing since its launch. All previous versions of the Nexon had passed the test with similar scores.

According to the report, the Tata Nexon facelift scored 32.22 points for adult occupant protection and 44.52 points for child occupant protection. This is the first time Tata is testing the Nexon under the new regulations, which now include side crash impacts. The norms for the front crash test are also more stringent than before.

The report indicates that the Tata Nexon offered good protection to the head and neck of the adult occupants in the frontal impact test. The driver’s knee, as well as the passenger’s knee, were also protected. The driver’s tibia was adequately protected, while the co-passenger’s tibia showed good protection. Similarly, in the side impact test, the abdomen and pelvis also showed good protection, while the chest had adequate protection. In the side pole impact test, the curtain airbags in the SUV provided good protection to the head and pelvis of the occupants. The ratings for chest and abdomen protection were rated marginal and adequate, respectively.

The child dummy in the car with child seats (3 years & 18 months) prevented the head of the dummy during the front crash test. Both child seats offered full side impact protection.

The Tata Nexon was the first product from Tata to achieve a 5-star rating in the Global NCAP test. Tata launched the all-new Nexon last year, and a detailed review of the same is also available on our website. It is, in fact, the only SUV available in the market that is offered with petrol, diesel, and electric powertrains. Other than the Nexon, the Safari and Harrier also received a facelift, and both SUVs scored a 5-star rating in the Bharat NCAP crash test.

The front design of the SUV has been completely redesigned. The Nexon now looks a lot more futuristic and is also feature-loaded to compete with its rivals. The connecting LED bar both at the front and rear give it a premium look. Similarly, the SUV also gets features like ventilated seats, a fully digital instrument cluster, a floating-type touchscreen infotainment system, an electric sunroof, leatherette upholstery, a 360-degree camera, 6 airbags, ABS, ESC, Hill Hold Control, a two-spoke steering with an illuminated Tata logo, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, and so on.

Tata has rejigged the variant names with the facelift. The SUV is now available in Smart, Pure, Creative & Fearless trims. The SUV is available with a 1.2-liter turbocharged petrol engine that generates 120 PS and 170 Nm of peak torque. The petrol version is available with a 5-speed & 6-speed manual transmission option (depending on the variant). Tata is also offering a 7-speed DCA gearbox option with this engine on the higher variants. The diesel version, on the other hand, uses a 1.5-liter, turbocharged engine that generates 115 PS and 260 Nm of peak torque. The diesel version is available with 6-speed manual and 6-speed AMT gearbox options. Prices for the Tata Nexon start at Rs 8.15 lakh, ex-showroom, and go up to Rs 15.60 lakh, ex-showroom.
