Tata Nexon, Tata Nexon, Toyota Innova and Ford crash at high-speed: Here’s the result

In a video uploaded on the YouTube channel of Nikhil Rana, it is reported that a Tata Nexon collided with a Tata Harrier somewhere on the national highway near Sonipat, Haryana. In this crash, the Nexon rear-ended the Harrier, both of which were a part of a crash involving four different cars. The video claims that four vehicles got involved in a crash due to a stationary auto-rickshaw on the highway. In this accident, a Toyota Innova rear-ended an auto-rickshaw which was parked on the highway, with the Harrier rear-ending the Innova, the Nexon rear-ending the Harrier and a Ford Figo rear-ending the Nexon.
All four vehicles damaged
In this crash, the front of all four vehicles can be seen badly damaged, with the rear profiles of the Tata Harrier and Nexon also damaged as they were driving in the middle of the Toyota Innova at the very front and the Ford Figo at the very back. Here, we can see the bonnet and boot lid of both Harrier and Nexon are badly damaged with huge dents.

However, what’s more, interesting to see is that the front and rear pillars of both these SUVs are seen intact. It indicates that the pillars of both these SUVs have absorbed the impact very well, due to which the SUVs don’t look too damaged beyond them, despite the severity of this high-speed accident. In the video, we can also see that the front airbags of the Nexon and Harrier had deployed in this crash.
While this video demonstrates the importance of maintaining a safe distance from other vehicles while driving on a highway. Maintaining a safe distance from other vehicles on a highway, especially from the vehicle moving in front, is recommended to give enough response time to save yourself from a collision.
Nexon is India’s first 5-star rated car
Tata Nexon scored four stars in its first-ever crash test in 2016. But after a few changes and a retest, the mid-size SUV scored a perfect 5-star rating to become India’s first such car. The Nexon received 16.06 points out of 17, which is the highest ever achieved by any car ever made in India. The extra score adds one more star to Nexon’s earlier 4-star rating by the same testing agency.
It should be noted that the Tata Nexon’s body shell, platform and structure remained unchanged from the tests that were done in August 2018. Even the number of standard dual front airbags of the Nexon remains the same. It is only the addition of the full-channel version of ABS in the Nexon as standard fitment plus the seatbelt reminder of the driver and the passenger raises the score of the vehicle.
Tata Harrier is yet to be tested
While many newer products of Tata Motors are tested by G-NCAP, Tata never sent the Harrier to get a safety rating. While Tata has remained tight-lipped about the same. However, according to the experts, a part Multijet engine in the Tata Harrier can intrude into the cabin of the RHD cars and injure the driver. That is why Tata is yet to send the car for a crash safety test.
However, numerous accidents in the past involving the Tata Harrier shows how great the build quality of the SUV is. In most accidents, the occupants walk out of the crash unhurt.
In future, crash safety tests will become mandatory as the government has proposed. All the manufacturers will have to send the new cars for crash tests to get a safety star rating if the proposal becomes a law.
