The 1975 Cover ‘Now Is the Hour’ for ‘The New Look’ Soundtrack

0 21

The song was made famous by Bing Crosby in the 1940s

The 1975 have shared a meditative new single, “Now Is the Hour.” The piano-led ballad is a cover of an early 20th century song with Maori origins made famous by Bing Crosby in 1947 and later sung by Frank Sinatra. It will appear on the soundtrack to Apple TV+ series The New Look, produced by Jack Antonoff.

“Now Is the Hour” is the second single to emerge from the soundtrack following Florence + the Machine’s cover of Vera Lynn’s 1941 song “White Cliffs of Dover,” released in January. The collection marks the first release on Antonoff’s new imprint Shadow of the City, which will fall under the label Dirty Hit. Lana Del Rey, Nick Cave, Perfume Genius, and Antonoff’s own band Bleachers also appear, each covering mid-century classics fitting the series.

The New Look will premiere on Feb. 14 and follows the true stories of how designers Christian Dior, Coco Chanel, and their contemporaries navigated World War II while living, working, and launching modern fashion in Paris at the time. Ben Mendelsohn will play Dior while Juliette Binoche plays Chanel. Maisie Williams, Glenn Close, John Malkovich, Emily Mortimer, and Claes Bang round out the cast.

The 1975 released their most recent LP, Being Funny in a Foreign Language, in 2022. Last year, the group announced a hiatus following the end of their Still… At Their Very Best tour.
