The Alters shows off its quantum cloning gameplay – Destructoid

0 20

As part of the March Xbox Partner Preview, we’ve got a first look at the gameplay of 11 Bit Studio’s The Alters. A game about employing yourself in space.

The Alters has you play as a miner named Jan Dolski, who gets stranded on another planet.

To stay alive, he needs to make use of a base that, unfortunately, requires multiple trained people to run. Conveniently, the planet is also home to a substance called “Rapidium,” which allows Jan to make different versions of himself called Alters. Each one is an alternate version of himself with their past having been changed.

The trailer gives examples where Jan fights to save his marriage or doesn’t leave his hometown. He’s able to alter choices in his past and build them into these Alters, which gives them experience that he doesn’t have, so they can help him survive. However, the trailer points out that their different pasts can create friction between the crew, as they have their own goals and personalities.

It looks like an interesting concept. I just have to wonder how the gameplay will balance out between management and exploration. Is there crafting? I hope not, because I’ve done enough of that.

The Alters is set to release on Xbox Series X|S and PC later this year.
