‘The Flash’ Failing to Knock ‘Morbius’ off the Bottom of the Barrel Is Still a Win as Ben Affleck Reportedly Prepares to Play Turncoat Yet Again
via Sony
Only in the world of comic book movies could faring dismally at the box office be interpreted as a victory, but The Flash needs every shred of positivity it can lay its hands on after failing to fall below one of the worst Marvel adaptations there’s ever been.
Speaking of the ongoing rivalry between the two superhero sandboxes, the latest rumors claim that Ben Affleck is planning to switch sides yet again, something that those opposed to James Gunn’s tenure as co-CEO have been luxuriating in. It’s been another weird and wonderful week for Marvel, then, something that isn’t going to change in the near future…
The Flash falls off a box office cliff, but doesn’t meet Morbius on the way down
Heading into the weekend, there was a real danger that The Flash could steal a record away from Morbius by suffering the worst second-frame drop the superhero genre has ever seen. When it comes to the race to the bottom of the barrel, though, don’t worry; it’s still Morbin’ Time.
Of course, DC’s already-infamous dud barely accomplishing that feat isn’t anything to write home about, and it does leave you wondering how James Gunn is reacting in his new office at company headquarters having taken on a task that seems to grow larger by the day.
Ben Affleck rumored to be hoping back on the superhero carousel once more
Having made it perfectly clear that he was done playing Batman when publicly announcing his retirement from the role, Ben Affleck proved he was a man of his word by returning for Zack Snyder’s Justice League, The Flash, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. No, wait a second…
He also claimed that he’d never even consider the idea of returning to the Daredevil universe, so the man does have previous to back up the claims he’d been spotted on the set of Deadpool 3, which is heavily rumored to have a major multiversal angle. It’s all hearsay at this stage, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
Another Marvel and DC veteran gets caught up in the tangled web of hypocrisy
James Mangold isn’t one for mincing his words, so comparing the return of Hugh Jackman’s Logan in Deadpool 3 to Marvel squeezing every last drop out of a wet rag was typically salty. Then again, he didn’t seem to see the irony in his comments about repurposed IP.
After all, this is the guy bringing Swamp Thing back into live-action for the fourth time, while he also directed the sequel to the spin-off from a decade-old franchise before directing the sequel to that one, too, never mind steering Indiana Jones back to the screen after a 15-year absence.
That’s it for another week in the lawless wastelands of the Marvel universe, but be sure to check back tomorrow when it all starts again.
