The Galaxy S9 series tipped to have water and dust resistance

Water and dust resistance are standard among the flagship smartphone market, but tablets don’t get the same sort of love. This is the story for the Galaxy Tab line of tablets. However, according to Sam Mobile, it seems that the Galaxy Tab S9 might come with water and dust resistance.

In all honesty, you’re not typically bringing your expensive tablet to the pool or watching shows in your bathtub. So, water and dust resistance doesn’t seem all that necessary. However, this feature is still something nice to have.

The Galaxy Tab S9 could have water and dust resistance

Samsung doesn’t really give its top-of-the-line tablets ingress protection. Sure, it has its Active tablets, but those lack the style, power, and overall portability of the core Galaxy Tabs. Instead of getting a less-capable tablet for protection, consumers want Samsung to just make its top-tier tablet resistant to water and dust.

Sam Mobile caught wind of the company actually doing this for its upcoming Galaxy Tab S9 tablets. It won’t be quite as robust as its smartphones, but it’s a lot better than what we have now. According to the report, the Galaxy Tab S9 could come with IP67 water and dust resistance.

This means that it’s rated to be submerged under a meter of freshwater for up to 30 minutes. Your results will vary depending on what’s in the water and how deep your device is.

It’s important to know that devices are mostly rated to survive in freshwater. This means tap water, rainwater, pond water, etc. However, if your tablet is dunked in saltwater or pool water, then you’ll want to dry it immediately. The salt in saltwater and the chlorine in pool water can dissolve the adhesive keeping your device water-tight.

At this point, we don’t know too much more about the Galaxy Tab S9. The Galaxy Tab S8 launched alongside the Galaxy S22 last year, and we were hoping that Samsung would do the same thing with the Tab S9. However, it appears that Samsung is going to launch its next tablets alongside the Galaxy Z Fold/Flip 5.

As time goes on, we’ll get more information on these tablets and know if they’re worth your money.
