There was bound to be backlash from Disney’s shocking announcement last week that it plans to purge over 50 movies and TV shows from Disney Plus and Hulu. Now diehard Willow fans are following in the footsteps of Warrior Nun fans by taking to the proverbial streets to demand justice for the show. Indeed, Disney is evoking Netflix in the worst way possible. Meanwhile, a specific scene from The Little Mermaid is already being roasted so badly that it has been labeled the worst part of the movie. Halle Bailey on the other hand — she’s the clear winner, as evidenced by early reviews that came out today, even if those early reviews earned the film a disappointing place on the ever-growing list of live-action Disney remakes.

Here’s a two-for-one for ya: On one hand, we have Halle Bailey being lauded as the best part of The Little Mermaid (which we already knew was true, but it’s nice to see it in print all the same), while Awkwafina’s rap on the soundtrack is being dragged through the mud. Rapping, you say? That’s right — The Little Mermaid sports a rap verse from the actress on the song “The Scuttlebutt” and it is… just as bad as the song title implies. You might want to cleanse your ears with the refreshing rendition of Bailey’s “Part of Your World” afterward. Just sayin’.
Unfortunately, Bailey’s standout performance is fighting an uphill battle as early reviews officially place The Little Mermaid below Mulan, Cruella, and 2015’s Cinderella, making it eighth on the list of Disney’s 20 live-action remakes.
Willow fans draw up a petition to revive the fantasy series from the Disney Plus abyss, refusing to go out sitting down
Prematurely axed shows have unfortunately become the norm among fantasy fans lately. Just when they thought they could get out from under Netflix’s harsh thumb, Disney goes and cancels Willow after one season and then rubs salt in the wound by scrubbing it from the streaming service entirely. Clearly, this bitter pill was not going to go down well — within a matter of hours, fans drew up a petition to resurrect the beloved series before it is officially struck by Disney’s sharp axe (which is in four days, mind you). Forget the fact that the show’s first season was received well by both critics and audiences, it also happens to include positive queer representation. Once again, we’re left questioning Disney’s allegiance to the LGBTQ+ community.
Cinderella joins Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey as the next Disney character to seek murderous revenge
Yes, you read that currently. Cinderella is finally getting her revenge for all those snarky, vile, degrading comments from her stepsisters and stepmother. ChampDog Films has teamed up with ITN Studios to follow through on the fandom Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey created earlier this year, i.e. horror fans who love seeing classic Disney characters go on a murderous rampage. The bloody remake has been coined Cinderella’s Curse and has an expected release date of later this year — right on time for the Halloween season.
