After setting the hearts of Snyder’s DC fans ablaze yesterday, the Russo brothers have cleared the air with some much-needed clarifying statements. The very idea of the Captain America: Civil War directors helming the upcoming Batman The Brave and the Bold had Dark Knight fans sharpening pitchforks. Those bitter few can rest easy knowing that the brothers really don’t feel Batman is their speed. Meanwhile James Gunn is sweeping Zack Snyder’s interesting story choices under the rug. The new Co-CEO is incredibly open about his desire to stay true to the comics this time around, and he’s going to bat for Superman’s main man, Jimmy Olsen. While he works to bring back in fans that Snyder lost along the way, it seems like the job is a serious undertaking as The Flash is allegedly still being scrutinized for the best ending possible. According to an insider, the movie, while finished, has just gone through some minor rearranging to ensure that the final product delivers the punch fans are so desperate for.

Look, no one here is arguing that Zack Snyder isn’t incredibly good at what he does. The director is known for shadowy sets, bleak subject matter, and dark atmosphere, and while his flair for drama works incredibly well for projects centering on the Dark Knight, it doesn’t make for very good Superman story telling. James Gunn recently acknowledged his predecessor’s shortcomings, homing in on the extreme injustice Snyder imposed on Jimmy Olsen.  The intrepid, charming, and sweet Jimmy met an untimely end in Snyder’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice after the reporter-turned-double-agent is murdered within the movie’s first act. Superman is nothing without the loyal band of humans he calls friend, and the death of Jimmy Olsen had plenty of Supe’s fans gnashing their teeth in fury as the beloved character was yet again stiffed.

James Gunn hears and respects fan turmoil around the insanely dark, less than lore accurate version of characters that the DCU has offered in the past, and has been incredibly frank about rectifying the mistakes. The director frequently takes to Twitter to assuage fan fears, and his intention to give the photographer a chance to thrive in the upcoming Superman: Legacy has been one he freely shares.

The Flash can’t release fast enough for its own good

Recent rumors from KC Walsh have postulated some unfortunate news for the upcoming DCU release of The Flash. The self-proclaimed insider swears that the ending of the movie has yet again been changed. While they confirm that the movie is finished it seems that the studio, as ever, keeps mandating changes to the summer blockbuster before it even hits test audiences. The insider also dropped the hint that there will be cameos galore as well as a CW connection sure to tickle fan fancy. The Crimson Comet is set to speed into theatres on June 16, and fans are already certain it’s going to be the best finale the DCU could have asked for. News that the title will come to steaming by the fall of 2023 has some fans nervous. Streaming releases so soon after theatrical runs is becoming more common, but Shazam! Fury of the Gods poor performance and quick steaming release has tainted the very notion.  With James Gunn and Tom Cruise lauding the film as incredible, we’re certainly hopeful that the movie proves as astronomical as fans’ expectations.

The Russo brothers are in for the DCU, just not for Batman

Yesterday, news that the Russo brothers were interested in making a Batman film nearly ripped the fandom apart. Today, DC fans can breathe a collective sigh of relief. While the Russos are definitely onboard to join James Gunn’s DCU, the directors clarified their comments to let fans know that they didn’t want to take on the upcoming Batman: The Brave and the Bold. The duo swore that the one thing they would never, EVER do would be to add yet another Batman to the franchises lengthy list of titles.
Regardless of how much they respect Gunn and love what he is doing with the DCU, the brothers said they prefer to work on funny and offbeat characters. The idea of working on such a well known and dour superhero genuinely dissolved the two into contagious laughter as they proclaimed that they would never touch the property. With word that a Booster Gold movie is coming to the DCU, maybe we already have a clue as to which offbeat superhero the brothers are looking forward to working on.
