This is Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy A14 5G budget handset

A couple of months back, we got our first look at Samsung‘s upcoming budget smartphone, the Galaxy A14, courtesy of reliable leaker Steve H. McFly, aka @OnLeaks. We now have the visuals of the 5G model as well, which will be the company’s most affordable 5G smartphone of 2023. Another trusted leaker Evan Blass shared the early renders of the Galaxy A14 5G.

The 4G and 5G models of this unannounced budget phone from Samsung have some design differences. The latter seems to have flatter edges and wider display bezels. The display notch on the Galaxy A14 5G  is also V-shaped, while the 4G counterpart gets a U-shaped notch. That’s pretty much it as far as design differences are concerned, though. Both models feature an identical rear camera setup, with three vertically-aligned sensors protruding out of the back panel individually. As you can see in the image below, there’s no camera bump. The LED flash unit also sits at the same location.

The positioning of the buttons is also identical. More importantly, the power button sits flush on the right side, confirming a side-mounted fingerprint scanner on the Galaxy A14 and Galaxy A14 5G. The latter’s renders don’t show its top and bottom edges, so we can’t confirm the positioning of the holes and ports. But as usual, a USB Type-C charging port, a microphone hole, and a speaker grille should sit at the bottom, while a second microphone should find a place at the top. We only need to wait for confirmation of the positioning of the SIM tray. It’s on the left edge of the 4G model.

The 4G-only Galaxy A14 also has a 3.5mm headphone jack at the bottom. It’s unclear if Samsung will offer the traditional audio port on the Galaxy A14 5G as well. We hope it does, though. We will let you know as soon as we have more information.

The Galaxy A14 5G may come in two processor variants

Samsung is doing away with its strategy of launching Galaxy flagships with different processors in different markets next year. The Galaxy S23 series will employ the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 globally. But it appears the company will do something similar with the Galaxy A14 5G. Rumors are that the upcoming budget smartphone ship with Samsung’s in-house Exynos 1330 processor in some markets and MediaTek’s Dimensity 700 in others.

Other rumored specs of the Galaxy A14 5G include a 6.8-inch IPS LCD screen with Full HD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate, a 50MP primary rear camera, a 13MP front camera, a 5,000mAh battery with 15W fast charging, up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, and Android 13-based One UI 5 software. Stay tuned for the official announcement.
