0 31

The lifestyle off-roader Jimny from Maruti Suzuki may not have turned out to be as big of a hit as the company anticipated; however, it can be noted that the company is trying to push its sales by offering lucrative discounts. Now we all know that currently the Jimny is offered with a single petrol powertrain; however, a few months ago, reports started to float on the interwebs that an EV iteration of this SUV is in development. Well, at the moment, there are official pictures of this EV SUV, but a talented digital artist has shared a rendering of the Jimny online.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny EV’s digital rendering comes courtesy of the digital automotive artist SRK Designs, and he has shared a video of it on YouTube. The video shows the details of the render in the beginning, and it ends with the complete render of the Jimny EV. From the final picture, we can note a few key design details which could be used by the company when it eventually launches this SUV across the globe.

Starting with the main highlight of this rendering, this particular Jimny EV has been rendered in a lovely shade of matte sky blue. Following this, we can note that the front end of this rendered version has been given a brand-new front grille. It appears that the grille is illuminated as well, and instead of the more common Suzuki S logo, it gets a lettered version of it.

Apart from it, from the front-end design changes, we can also note that the car gets a set of bigger LED projector headlights with thicker circular LED DRLs. Additionally, the front bumper has also been changed, and it now looks inspired by the Mercedes-Benz AMG G63 luxury SUV.

There are also hints of the Hummer H2 SUV. The lower bumper also gets LED projector fog lamps as well. Coming to the side profile, not much has been changed except for the alloy wheels, which are now diamond-cut and have 10 spokes. Additionally, the door handles are also different in this particular rendering.

According to reports, it is believed that the Jimny EV could be offered with an electric motor and a 60kWh battery pack from the eVX EV SUV, which will be launched next year. Some reports have also claimed that the company could also equip this EV SUV with two electric motors, both at the front and the rear, where the front and rear axles could each accommodate one of these motors.

However, it has also been stated that packing all of these motors along with a bigger battery in a ladder on a frame SUV will be difficult. The main reason for this is that the Jimny is already a small SUV. Additionally, there are no ladder-on-frame EV SUVs, and constructing one with these many limitations will become a challenge for the company.

Reports have also stated that in order to fit a larger battery, the company could place the battery pack within the frame. It could also utilize a double-decker structure to pack the larger battery effectively for a longer range. Now whether Maruti Suzuki is willing to go through all of these hoops has not been confirmed. So we will have to wait and watch. Additionally, even if the brand does manage to get everything accomplished, the SUV will take around 2-3 years to be launched.
