Threads could soon have a trending topics section

0 22

Threads is back on the rise, having reported an increase in its user base. However, the company is not resting on its laurels and continuing to push new features like a DM system. Today both Mark Zuckerberg and Adam Mosseri announced that Threads is getting a trending topics feature.

Not too long ago, Threads announced that it crossed 100 million uses again. The company did this within a few days of launching back in July 2023, but that was just the initial rush of users. After that, its user base tanked and fell to about half of that. However, over the months, Threads introduced more useful features, and it very slowly crawled back up. Now, the company is still working on pushing new features in the hopes of usurping X.

Threads is testing a trending topics feature

If you’re a person who uses Threads, and you want to know what people are talking about, then this future might be for you. Mark Zuckerberg made a short and sweet Threads post saying that the company is rolling out a small test. You’re going to see what topics are trending in the US for the day.

Adam Mosseri, the CEO of Instagram, also made a post about it, but he went a little bit more in-depth. Basically, you will see topics that are “determined by [Meta’s] AI systems based on what people are engaging with right now on Threads.” So, whatever people are talking about the most, you’ll see it.

It’ll be similar to what we have on X, as you access it through the search feature. When you tap on a search button, you will see a section titled Today’s Topics above your search results. After that, you will see a list of at least five topics that are trending at that time. Also, you will see topics scattered throughout your For You feed.

Right now, this feature is rather limited, as it’s still brand new. Firstly, it only applies to topics trending in the US for the moment. Also, this is a very limited test, so it’s highly unlikely that you will see it on day one. At Android headlines, we did not see the future, and we are running the latest beta version.

However, it’s still worth a shot. Make sure your app is fully updated and see if you can see the trending topics. If not, then you’ll just have to wait for the test to expand.
