Tina Turner, “Queen Of Rock ‘N’ Roll,” Dies At 83

The renowned singer Tina Turner, often known as the “Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll,” passed away on Wednesday. She was 83 years old. Her health has declined recently; in 2016, she received a diagnosis of intestinal cancer, and in 2017, she underwent a kidney transplantation.

According to her representative, the iconic singer passed away quietly at her home in Küsnacht, Switzerland, close to Zurich, following a protracted illness.

 Turner began her professional life in the 1950s, during the early years of rock ‘n’ roll, and went on to become an MTV icon. In one of her songs, What’s Love Got To Do With It?, she refers to love as a second-hand emotion.

Turner fit in perfectly with the 1980s pop scene, which valued electronically created sounds and ridiculed hippie-era idealism. She had a love for musical experimentation and wrote simple, phrased lyrics.

Turner, received six of her eight Grammy nominations in the 1980s. Twelve of her tracks, including “Typical Male,” “The Best,” “Private Dancer,” and “Better Be Good to Me,” reached the Top 40 throughout that decade. 

After spending two decades making music with her abusive husband, Ike Turner, she went it alone and, after a few false starts, with the release of the album Private Dancer, became one of the key pop idols of the 1980s.
